scottish highland button?

Although at first blush it appears to be a British regimental button, no 16th Highland Scottish Regiment or anything similar appears among the listings at http://regiments.org/regiments/index.htm

Nor is this button cataloged in either Parkyn's or Ripley's book on British (including Scottish) buttons.

That would be because it is the Canadian Expeditionary Force organized in September 1914. Their first battle was in Flanders at what was known as the Second battle of Ypres. There are actually two books written about them. The most recent called "The Brave Battalion".

PBK has been gone from this Forum for a couple of years;so he probably can't reply to your post. He may have been referring to no bottoms are noted in the sources he mentioned; I don't believe he was suggesting the 16th Reg. didn't exist.
Today, the 16th Battalion (Canadian Scottish), CEF is perpetuated by The Canadian Scottish Regiment (Princess Mary's).

shows many of the same buttons being offered for sale (now sold) and from a 1970s vintage.
