Holes in it? Hollow? Moving parts?

It's not hollow and has no holes.
The school is only about 30-35 years old.

There is no threads on it at all. It looks like it would have been part of some type of regulator and possibly sat on a rubber(?) seal in the middle area.

It's obviouslt knurled for finger grip and slotted to key into another part to twist it only finger tight. Might have had an "O" ring or gasket in the central slot or a retaining clip.

Fuel shut-off knob for a tractor?
