Question about "patina"

I have heard the word patina plenty and it's not something that I've fully been able to understand. I recently found a point that makes me him I understand and I'd like some feedback if I'm wrong.

The point on the right is what I recently found. The knapping marks on it look more worn and older than the knapping marks from the point on the left. These points were found In a field in north Georgia.

Is this accurate?

Patina is not so much wear as natural weathering, calcification and or staining of the lithic. This can be caused by the sun, and or minerals in the soil or water after prolonged exposure. Typically it creates a thin layer of discoloration or deposits on the exposed sides.

The best way I know to understand patina is by looking at freshly broken artifacts. The fresh edge will be significantly different looking than the ancient weathered edge.
