school hunting

Schools are public property. You own them and so do I. If there isnt a no trespassing sign on the property, feel free to detect. Of course, only after school hours. I think at least an hour after all the kids leave is good. You know how the world is today.

you may want to get permission to hunt a private school but public ones are fair game!

Where I live here in Florida all of the schools have fences around them and after school its locked up tight. This started right after 9/11.

It's just as Wayne said,I pay more then my part for the schools.Kids in school or not you pay.I have never asked for a school hunt becouse I know the answer will be NO.Have never been questioned and if I do They will have to show me that i have no right to be on the property after hours with my hobby.I mean that in a nice way ;D

Pooley, I have the same problem here in Cape Coral as you do in Avon. And to top it all off, they list one of the school playgrounds in the city's park and rec guide. I drove to the address last Saturday just to see the whole place was fenced off and locked.

The only problems I have had at public schools is from the soccer moms. They believe that only themselves and their children have the right to use the school fields.

But I never let some overbearing crazy women stop me from doing what I enjoy. Maybe the soccer moms should hang around and clean up the mess their kids create.

Well said Dave! If some of those moms got off their fat behinds and helped clean up as much as we detectorists do, the schoolyards would be spotless. I have never had a problem at schools here. I tend to hunt them on weekends, or late afternoons after work. If there are kids playing on the playground equipment, I just hunt the ballfield. My rule is that if someone is there to use it in the way it was built for, then I just stay out of their way. Once they leave, I'm back on the playground, hoping they lost some coins! I also will bring my own kids from time to time, makes the moms less nervous if my own kids are there playing too! HH!

Your hunting style is similar to mine. I do not go into a playground if there are kids there, nor do I go onto the ballfields during games. It's surprising how paranoid some people can be. One of the best areas to check on a school field is the grassy area around the playground. I usually check about 10- 25 feet out from the edge of and all around the perimeter the playground.

I say let them be paranoid. some folks need to keep a better eye on them children Any how.
way to many parents seem to let them run rampid and dont even know where they are half the time.

the wether here has been great as of late. and the parks and schools show it.
drove around today and not a one that had less than 50 people in it.
so much for detecting today.

Most of the school playgrounds are locked and secured after hours in my neck of the woods. The local Jr hi and Highschool don't have fences and I have found a coffee can full of clad at these places. I find a few weat pennies under windows of the older schools that date back to pre-air conditioning days but no silver so far.I lost silver coins on these school grounds so I know some was there. Maybe someone beat me to it?

I know about the coins under the windows. back in the early 80s when I was hot and heavy into detecting we use to hit the old schools in Nashville, TN. One school in particular was called Pearl Cohn High School. We found hundreds and hundreds of coins, mostly pennies by the windows.
