Wow what a day (5 hours)!
Firstly Dad reminded me that we recently broke 10,000 recordable finds (this is mostly medieval/older & not buttons etc). Thats a lot of GPSing, mapping & spreadsheet work - Big thank-you to Cru'Dad - no-one else has done this.:hello2:
On Dads quest to get a least a couple of Roman Scrappies this month, he found a field where the oilseed rape crop had mostly failed on a Roman/Saxon Site that we have not done in over 1 year, so off we set.
Our expectations of 5-10 scrappies was soon to be smashed when Dads 2nd dig was a Saxon Sceat circa 700AD (D Series). This was thought to be our kiss of death, but today we had an almost unrepeatable gridding session!

24 Roman Bronze Coins
2 Poor Quality Roman Silver Coins (1 each)
Roman Pin (bent)
Roman Lead Steelyard Weight
Roman Bracelet Piece
Saxon Strapend

I then matched his Sceat circa 700AD & raised him 100 fold with rarity. This Very Rare Series Z Sceat, Christs Face/Hound reverse looks to be the 17th one ever recorded (I will confirm soon):headbang: Circa £500 coin!!!

Nice find's.........I assume you have to report the sceat's as a hoard?

Only if they were in close proximity & they are GPSed far enough away not to be in that bracket. They have both already been recorded with the appropriate Museum who are very quick with me. I got a response by Sunday lunchtime after emailing on the Sat night!
Copy of email minus a few details:
'Two excellent finds, and it is nice that you have found one each.

I have recorded the Series D (Type 8) as EMC 2013.xxxx and the Series Z

as EMC 2013.xxxx.'
