These treasures were found at a home in a yard with no grass, the coins were down about 5 or 6 inches, the brass tag was down about a foot.

I look for construction/demolition sites and places with the grass removed (or completely dead and the yard is low compared to an original sidewalk for example) in the historic parts of a town.

I don't think I have ever hunted on grass.

For me, personally, its too time consuming and if the sod has been removed your 3 or 4 inches closer to the old stuff and alot of the modern trash (pull tabs, zinc pennies, etc.) have been removed as well.
