Sarah Palin defends Duck Dynasty star

I think the biggest issue being glossed over here is that these folks have to sign contracts that state they won't do things like this because the network has to look out for itself. Do you really think the network gives a hoot about protecting anything but their own bottom line?

Phil made a choice to speak out and now he has to live with the consequences. It really isnt up to you or me to say whether or not he was "allowed" to make the comments that he made. That's what the contract is for. If the network has contractual means to take the action that they did, then that is all that matters.

People like Phil are a loose cannon. If I was his lawyer/agent/manager, I would bury my head in the sand and hope this all blows over.
They are making a TON of money off that old hillbilly being a "loose cannon". They're just pissed because he strayed from what the script told him to say.

"The cloak of religion should not keep prejudice warm and comfy"- Does this not contradict what you just said in the quote? As a religious man I am not infringing on any one persons rights by not agreeing with homosexuality, but you call it prejudice. Is it prejudice for you to tell me that "religion does not apply to those who do not accept it or believe in it"? Well I think homosexuality is not something that you are born with, it's something you come to "believe", so does that mean homosexuality does not apply to those who do not accept it or believe it?

You do have the right to promote your opinion, and I am glad we live in a county that gives us that right. But at the same time, what gives you the right to tell me that I am prejudice just because I don't believe the same way you do?

What I posted was my opinion, not something that should be forced on others. Unlike so many people these days, I recognize my opinion only applies to me. No one has to take what I say and apply it to themselves at all. But I still have the freedom to express that opinion. If I think your religion makes you prejudiced, I am free to state that. And you are also free to ignore what I say...

So do you agree that Phil Robertson has those very same rights ? You haven't responded to that question... Are you waiting for OB to tell you what to say ?

Phil Robertson will end up with another TV show if another network doesn't just grab Duck D. at end of contract. He and show are popular and that means TV revenue...

Just my personal opinion but I read nothing he was quoted as saying as so tertible.

We will NOT go quietly into the night!

Just talking to a friend about this very subject. He is listening to the Glen Beck show at the moment and he has offered to start producing the Duck Dynasty show if they walk away from A&E. Now all the GB hates can respond.

Yea that's exactly what I asked WAY back on post #18...

All the network cares about is the gay community will stop buying sponsor products so there goes the money. Kinda like using the scary "N" word; if you say it, you're gone until you grovel a little and then you're back. If there is something in the contract that forbids him from saying what he thinks about gays I'm sure he didn't think about that while he was telling how he personally feels about the subject. The network is very aware of these folks being Christian as do most of their fans so I don't think it should surprise anyone that he would feel this way. It's a shame that one would have to give up a constitutional right to be politically correct.

This is about business and money. I know people like Palin want to make this about religion or free speech but quite simply, it is only about business. People like Phil are a loose cannon. If I was his lawyer/agent/manager, I would bury my head in the sand and hope this all blows over.

Oh, and Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga are not loose cannons? They only get more popular with the things they do and say.

By the way. Duck Dynasty is A&E's cash cow, I don't think they are going to get rid of it.

I have watched the show some. It's fairly amusing. Phil has a right to his opinion, and A & E overreacted. It will probably bite them back, like I really care about a network. Phil was quoting the book of Romans, by the way, he didn't pull his dialog out of thin air. I wouldn't be surprised if the show goes boom! However A & E needs them more than the Robertsons need A & E. I for one am going to call the executive offices of A & E today and tell them they're idiots for their suspension.

Well I have to get Phil credit at least he has a lot of people busy at the water cooler. Maybe now media like A&E will find out a lot of people don't care if a person is comfortable with his face stuck in a pillow or likes carpets. It was a better world when the closet door was shut, maybe we should of nailed it closed a long time ago.
just another thing to take the focus off the goof in D.C.

I have seldom seen a post from you that wasnt HIGHLY offensive.:o

This post does not disappoint!

Are you suggesting that ALL Christians feel this way?

I know many who are actually tolerant and open minded people.

Maybe the other cast members should show some solidarity and all make the same comments or say they completely support him, what would A&E do then, fire them all, fire their cash cow?.... There are other networks that would scoop them up in a heartbeat....

I wouldn't watch the show if it was the only show on TV

but since when did someones opinion need to be one sided in order to appear on a TV show ?

Oh come on gang - I don't know about the rest of ya - but I saw this coming. IMHO - the current administration and liberal press was waiting for this to happen. They aren't blind - they see how popular the show (and cast) are and know that their conservative views will influence future voters. So, what have they done in the past? Yuppa - they destroy anyone that opposes their liberal views. They sit and wait and then pounce on someone that doesn't support their vision. Phil (and the rest of the staff) have all been in their sights. Now, MSNBC (and the rest of the liberal media) will ride this puppy until it has no life left. Gosh - this was so predictable - yet such a shame that the media goes right along with it...
