No, BUT, there are a lot of claims in Montana, so it is good to check before digging! Also, the kind of digging matters, if you set a sluice or any kind of trommel, you have to have a permit. I bring my dirt home and sluice at home, so, I can't get into trouble! Recreational panning is ok as long as you are not on someone's claim.Nice gems. Does a person have to file a claim to dig in streambeds for gemstones in Montana, on Nat'l Forest land?
That's cool! Not sure where you go, but, I used to go to a particular spot to get those, but it has now since been closed off to the public. I have a friend who has access, but, it is unclear as of yet if he can bring close friends, which I am. I may have to just make sure I hold on to the ones I have, because I might not get another chance to get any more. Those are really nice and clear, I tried that once up there and went looking for the star ones! Somewhere I still have themI polished a few but they are very hard! Congratulations on some beautiful ones! It looks a lot easier to buy the dirt than all the digging I did, but I was younger then!
Alas, these ones do not, but I do in fact check every rock I find with both shortwave and longwave! The scheelite here glows a BRIGHT neon blue! Some might glow under UV light.
