Hi Gang,
I was at one of the few sand volleyball courts in the Dayton area. I have hit it a few times without any luck other than a nickel. This time I got a signal of foil by the back edge of the court at three inches down. Oh well, get the junk out first. I saw a little gold shine and figured it was a tin foil lid to some drink. As I pulled on it, it kept coming out. Wow, I thought. can this be real? I couldn't see any markings on it so just tossed it in my pouch with coins.
Just in case it was good, I kept looking so no one would think I found something good. Now that kids are back in school, I don't know who I thought was watching..lol Paranoid? Yes, when you think you may have a good find.
I was at the mall and stopped by JC Penneys to see if they carried them. Nope but they liked my MDing story so offered to clean it for free. It said 750 on the clasp (very tiny) but they thought is was probably junk--it was too heavy to be 10K bracelet, which is what they carry. I went to mall jewelry store and he said it was not 18K as it did not have the shine--hey, it was in a sand volleyball court for who knows how long getting ground up?
Then I took it too my favorite jeweler and he TESTED it and yup--18K gold. I fixed the broken link and am wearing it...well for a day, as it is my 63 birthday. Then didn't want to loose it I so put it away--save it for my Etrac purchase in only ten more gold items...hum!
It turned out to be a good find: 18K at 16.6 grams-- double gold link MENS bracelet. Too big for my wife. She mumbled something about having links taken out--like that will happen.
