Upon further inspection of the "gold piece" I was able to crush it with my finger nails so its not gold. I didn't originally think it was gold when I found it either because it looked to light colored. Ah oh well I plan on going back to that spot eventually and trying again.

That's the spirit. Keep trying, deeper where you've been, maybe some different spots, definately check any cracks in rock that are full of dirt and even grass. Keep looking here for info, and keep studying maps and the Internet... I know, there's not a whole lot of info revealed about SD, but if you keep researching, and keep digging, you'll find it.

Yeah. I'm planning on going out again next friday, but I'll just keep the location secret ;) I bought a folding shovel today so I can dig deeper and more easily, and maybe use a regular shovel depending on the location. In julian we stopped by the used book store there and I saw a couple books: geology of anza berrego desert and geology of the sunrise highway. I mean I didn't buy them but maybe those books could help to find gold :O

Promised the wife I'd get caught up around the house this weekend. Should be nice in the mountains though, weather is supposed to cool way down.

Ya should be a beautiful weekend up there. I however am riding in the car at the moment headed to Las Vegas. So the gold will have to wait on me for another week. :-)

Desert Outfitters has a decent prospecting store in Vegas if you get tired of the casino scene

I hope the tables put out for you like that sweet spot you found in the back country, good luck and have fun......Rob

Lol thanks Hard Prospector. So far so good, main reason we're here this weekend is to bowl a tournament, but I find it real tough to walk past a dollar roulette table. :-)

Made it home safe and sound, my wife and I bowled our asses off and made some extra money yesterday, and the roulette gods were in my favor. We actually returned with what we intended to spend. Bonus! And if that's not good enough, it rained today an is supposed to rain mon and tues in the mountains with a forecast of 70 and sunny for sat.... I'm coming gold, it won't be much longer

Wasn't able to go last weekend. We were going to go today but the rain! So we have planned either wednesday or friday.

Oh I bet it's a beautiful day up there today, just Fotolife be careful in the rain, because those already slick rocks are even worse, and the small dry "banks" like to slide and collapse when it's raining.
