Same spot as before,100 yards away, 2nd Gold Ring & The Entire Story of the hunt

I posted my meager finds from yesterday's last hunt.. a site I have hunted 4 times now. I crossed the old road that runs through the area and went a little further South and bam.. started pulling bullets.. buttons etc.. The knapsack triangle was only about 3 inches down and flat and rang really strong and high.. really thought it was goinfg to be a deep plate!! The ring piece came out with out the face on it..i thought it has a gem so I was looking for that when I spotted the gold piece with the initials.. it was another 4 or 5 inches down. I spent about 40 minutes looking for the rest but did not find it!! So total take for the day was pretty good. A good handful of bullets, 1 eagle bullet, 2 ball buttons, the knpsack triangle and the piece of ring. All and all.. a pretty good day!

Well.. all the research paid off on this one. I start this whole thing last year looking for the site of a small skirmish between my town's border guards and some NY troops who tried to sneak down the mountain and surprise the town. Working back from the skirmish site I was trying to find where the NY troops stopped and prepared to go into town. That is the site i am digging now, The bad news is, it was found by someone else long ago and he hunted it so much.. he lost permission... so I am filling in a few small gaps but I pretty much have all the history and plenty of relics that match up.. NY buttons, Virginia button and cape pin... plenty of dropped and fired bullets, the route in and route out. I will do a complete display of this, including maps and a write up as time permits and post it here.. Sure, a couple of plates would have been nice!! but having the whole event figured out.. and having the relics that help prove it well.. all that together is better then just finding one random plate!!

Total find for this whole thing.. minus what I have in a ziplock baggie "someplace"are:
124 Bullets
18 Buttons - including the VA and (2) NY
A Spur
A Sabre Tip
A bunch of Burnsides with lots of the brass still connected to the bullets
AND the coolest .69 round ball that was hammered into a square - sort of like a die!

There are more bullets, and a few buttons, in the bag.. I just can't find them right now.. so the totals are slightly higher. Not bad for a small 250 man engagement that probably last no more then an hour.

ok.. NOW.. I off on the research of a cavalry skirmish that happened "about a mile" from town.. seems to be about 400 men involved in that one!!!
