I've been seriously considering a Ryedale myself lately - My main motivation is to simply save time, though in terms of the investment itself it doesn't seem to be very cost effective in terms of ROI. However, if the price of copper continues to rise and a larger market materializes for the pennies I may be proven wrong. Any thoughts on this from Ryedale owners? What was your motivation for purchasing?

my daughter and i do about 20 boxes of pennies a week. we have had the Ryedale for a few months now, and Andy was very helpful when we first got it. We did notice a few wheats in the zinc side, so we double sort. We send everything through the first time with a copper penny in the validator. Then we recheck with a zinc penny as the validator and usually get a few coppers on the reject side. In my area we are averaging around 15-17%, but we have had a few boxes that got us up near the 24-25% mark. We do not count our coppers, we weigh them and store them in 50 pound bags that one of my dump banks sells to me.

As for the jamming, we clean the chute with silicone spray after the second sort of every box and get minimal jams. Yes, dirty coins will jam the machine, but the time it takes to unjam it is minimal. My daughter is 11, and she has no problem clearing out the occasional jam.
