Well you certainly nailed that one with gusto.😁
I have only had one tin that contained anything.
4 trolly tickets and 4 LCs

Find any with coin’s inside yet?
None with coins.
Years ago a guy metal detecting pulled out of his pouch a rusty tobacco tin
and he had 2 gold coins in it.
They were on wax paper.
I knew he never found them that way.
So when I dig a tobacco tin I always look inside.

I will say that this is my 2nd strangest find ever.
27 nails inside. When I dug it I used my shovel to open it.
I have found about six tobacco tins and I always check them for coins.
Nice!!! Congrats!!!

I found one nailed to an old dead lodgepole pine. Inside was a well preserved folded up mining claim from 1961. I researched the claim owner’s name and found his obituary. He died exactly 30 years to the day that the claim was signed.

being heavy would have got my heart going. theres allot of those to look though out there. but nothing yet. i would be fun to start a thread just for finds in these.

Not so strange... this was a common thing believe it or not.

How so Arc? I have never heard of this before. I would love to read more about this practice.
I just picked one up 2 weeks ago ... full of furniture tacks... one a few months or more ago with nails... and have seen it throughout my life.
The last 2 i simply wanted the tins.
One tin was a small cigar tin and the other just tobacco.

I can walk into many home work shops and find a tobacco tin being used to store something. I must have a dozen containing things, lot of them have been painted at one time,

I have seen them used, as well as the rectangular ones with the hinged tops used to store all sorts of small items, too, but have never seen one crammed full of 16d nails.

Interesting story. I see them regularly nailed to a post hiking around Northern Nevada, along with old metal Band-aid tins, with claim papers inside. Never thought to look any up.

Old farmers here in the US were notorious for repurposing tobacco tins. Would be just the thing to slip into the pocket of their overalls for a quick job on a ladder or roof.

Interesting find.

Years ago my brother dug up a round tin about 6" in diameter. As he pulled it out of the hole it "rattled". We both about fainted. Alas, it was 1/2 full of ordinary metal washers! An old Army buddy living in ###(?) found a tobacco tin with...Six (6) $20 gold coins inside. I wasn't with him but, I saw the coins!
