russy's finds from yesterday

after helping in the garden yesterday russy went surface hunting
this is what he found
the pulley awl is very interesting to me
it is highly ground and polished to the point it almost looks like rib bone awl
take a look..he was happy and i see why
also a jasper, a petwood, and a KRF scraper,few bone beads & a nice KRF triangle arrow point IMG_1699.jpgIMG_1700.jpgIMG_1701.jpgIMG_1702.jpgIMG_1704.jpg

Cool Finds! But I think that triangle point :icon_thumleft: is really awesome. They did some really nice, and fine flaking on that sucker.

this is what i mean about how much the pulley awl has been ground and polished..............and re-sharpened
here is an image of the raw bone that is in the process of being cut and split to make two bone pulley awls
see what i mean?View attachment 679414View attachment 679415IMG_1705.jpgIMG_1706.jpg

What is a pulley awl? And how was it used?

pulley is just a name for the way the end of the raw bone looks before it was cut and split into 2 long pieces which made 2 strong (6 or 7 inch awls that could be used and re-sharpened until they got too short)
pulley is not a term that we coined, but if you look at the end of the bone I refer to you can see why someone, long ago called them that
they started out long and are usually only 3 inches long and broke when we find them
and most of the time they are broke mostly from farm equipment
we find broke examples every week but choose to leave them lay where we find them....we sure can't frame them
i know russy is not thinking i am stealing his thread since he asked me to post the pieces in the initial thread
my son is getting him a good Mac so he can start posting his own finds
him and twitko are some of my most best friends
Twitko=Kelly
Russy = Russel diesel

Kytalin=Takoja (grand daughter)

Very nice. I like scrapers seeing I hardly ever find a point. What period is most of your finds from on your land? Your scrapers look very close to the ones I got from Tx that were Paleo.

That is some beautiful finds. I am very much enjoying seeing those and now they look very familiar. I am taking that flint with me to examine that drill. If it is krf that would be some very long trading. Nice finds and good hunt. Archery season is here in Tennessee so you know where I will be : )
