I had an awesome three days in Culpeper at the Relic Rescue digging with some great folks! It was a weekend of firsts for me! The Va button (a first) was my second good find on Friday morning followed shortly by the awesome Box Plate (a first). That evening I dug the Scabbard tip (a first) to finish day one out. Day two started off with the Confederate Staff Button (a first), I just turned on the detector and walked a few feet and there it was. Amazing!! An hour or so later I spotted the flint point up under some cedars to top off my already amazing hunt so far. On the third day I got a .54 cal Gardener, a 1857 Flying Eagle Cent (a first), and the NY cuff button. I ended up with just 3 bullets, a few musketballs, two carved bullets?, a mushroomed bullet and camp lead. A few brass items, toe tap, and the ox Knob (thanks James). A huge thanks to David once again and everyone who helped with the hunt, I had a blast!! Thanks for looking and HH!!

Awesome US Plate! Great job on some very nice relics! :icon_thumleft:

WOW! Nice CW relics! I also found 2 plates this year in Culpeper, not an easy place to hunt. :icon_thumleft:

Great stuff!!! Looks like you got a good plowed field too hunt..

It was a horse farm so most of the fields were like digging through concrete.

Alright bud. You had a FANTASTIC hunt. That CS staff is one of them once in a lifetime finds!
I say banner! ;)

Thank you very much James. It was very nice meeting you! Bob Painter said to do a Elmers treatment to it to try and keep it together, have you ever tried that? I want to keep the button from falling apart any more but also don't want to do anything to ruin it.

Thats an option. Or you can send it to a pro for restoration & stabilizing

DennisT, mentioned a Leonard Short when I asked him about his bent boxplate. Do you know him? Or who would you recommend sending it to?

Excellent variety of finds there and congrats on the FE cent! They are NOT easy to find!

Sent you a PM

You didn't get that ringtail sharps, so you know what that means...you're gonna throw all the other finds away! That's what you said. lol No, but good hunt. Not a whole bunch of lead, but you found a lot of QUALITY finds. As I know with the DIV, I was lucky to find a plate on my 3rd one and some still haven't found one and they've done all 23. And you found one on your FIRST time to a relic hunt...pretty damn lucky! Congrats on that CS officer button...that's a great one.

No I didn't get that ringtail but I'm still super happy with my finds!

Excellent Ryan - you did quite well. Too bad that Culpeper soil is so harsh on brass.

You should be. A plate? We never thought we'd find one and we both did. Can't get better!

Thanks Bill, most of the buttons being dug were pretty toasty but a few were coming out very nice.

Yea it was weird so many plates were found compared to the bullets. Not like here so many bullets and just the one plate. They must have lost all there plates and state buttons in Culpeper before coming up to Winchester!

Finally cleaned the dirt off the back of the NY cuff. Here a pic can't quite read the back mark. (W . Button & co.)

I know this is an older thread, but how do you get signed up for a hunt like this? I would love to have the chance to dig some CW relics, but that just doesn't happen in my area.
