Re: Round ring shaped thingy

Could it be off a sparkplug?

Re: Round ring shaped thingy

No...well not likely. Is from an early 19th century homesite(no longer there) in the middle of the woods. It's a family farm and while there were dump sites in the spark plug era I know where they are and they are not close at all. Also there is no atv traffic. The house that replaced it on the property was built in 1872 so nothing of that sort was ever housed there(new house is 1/4 mile away.)

Re: Round ring shaped thingy

Outside dimension tip to tip 30/32", inside tip to tip 3/4", thickness 3/32"

I don't really have the know how to discern metal types when not obvious, so this is what I can give:

Color: Brass or Gold.

AT Pro: Pro mode zero; solid tone, 60 .

Gold Bug DP: Threshold at 12:00; 15, and Disc. at zero; 65

Re: Round ring shaped thingy

Just showed it to my father-in-law, definitely not a spark plug gasket.

Re: Round ring shaped thingy

I did some research on colonial wedding bands to find pictures etc.

What I found is in colonial times puritans viewed jewelery as frivilous so for the engagement a thimble would be given, after the wedding the bottom of the thimble would be cut off and worn as a wedding band by the woman only.

Any chances this could be the cut off bottom of a thimble?

:read2:

Looking at it now, with it cleaned up, it looks like a compression washer :icon_thumleft:

Judging by the dimples seen in the third photo, it looks like a tap-in pressure ring.

I dont know if this is the same and I never find them but apparently they find tons of these brass/bronze rings in Europe. http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,272310.0.html

I agree it looks like a compression ring but I also like the grommet idea where

a metal ring was sewn into the fabric.

Not my picture:
