Well we were not expecting a result like this, we assumed that the scatter would be finished by now. This is now the largest Roman scatter we have ever surveyed. Easily 10+ acres worth & still going...
Tomorrow I think we should get the Eastern edge, but we will have the Southern & a little of the Northern to check.

Dad had a great day, he had the 2 best finds:icon_thumright: & nearly kept up with my Roman Coin count; 9-13(me)

4 hours 15 minutes:

22 scrappies
4 Roman Brooches/Fibula - nice complete 2nd C Bow Fantail type:icon_thumright:
14th C Medieval Horse Harness Mount/Stud:icon_thumright:
1 Lead Token
1 Medieval Leather Mount
Roman Ring made from a bracelet fragment8-)

Hi fibular like. Good hunting.

Like that mount .

Yeah, seen this shape as a horse pendant but was surprised to see the back just had a single central bent over spike. Could only really find 1 similar on the PAS, so fairly rare I think.

When I imagine of a Roman, I picture in my head a man wearing a toga/cloak. Maybe something light underneath, a tunic ( I think that is what they are called) So...... Where did they keep there money. I dont picture them with pockets. Did they carry small bags? It seems like they lost alot of coins.

Pockets are a modern invention, so yes they had small leather bags hung from a belt. These are mostly low value coins, have a think how many 1 cent coins you would find at a play park after 400 years. (without modern day detectors finding them)
