XP Deus II v0.6 with 11" Coil
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Another very windy day similar to Saturday, but January has been one of the driest on Record! Great detecting conditions.
Today was our last mega grid on the virgin ground before we planned to move, so we put in a 6 hour day, my longest since the accident. Coped fine, other than wind burn.
This had to be the craziest & best hunt we have ever had, although tough to judge.
I got the first Qrter Stater within the first hour, followed shortly after with a hammered, then Cru'dad got the Stater & I later matched his Stater. Thankfully none were in close proximity, so no need to report them.

7 Scrappies
Celtic Fibula
Bit of a Langton Down Fibula - 1st C AD
Medieval Buckle & pin
Saxon Strapend - First Saxon item off this field, a real surprise
1922 Shilling
York Hammered Penny of Henry??
Quarter Gold Stater of Cunobelin AD 8-41
2 Gold Staters of the Ambiani Tribe circa 57BC:

''The Ambiani tribe were a Belgic people who lived in the modern-day Picardy region. In 57 BC they united with other tribes to resist the Roman invasions led by Julius Caesar. Sometimes known as Gallic War staters, these types of coin are thought to have been made to finance the war in Gaul and perhaps pay for mercenaries. Being uniface, having a design on only one side, perhaps indicating that they were struck hastily under wartime conditions.''

An amazing finish to January & a hard one to beat!:occasion14:

Hmmm! Actually I checked the forum only to see if Crusader hit any coin's hoard but finding three gold coins is great. Congratulations to you and Cru'dad.

Welcome back, good to hear from you again. No hoards yet.....

Cru'dad checked our Stats to put this into perspective:
Our best year is 3 Celtic Gold Coins & we got that in 1 day, plus with our back-to-back 2 hunts we got 4 Celtic Gold, making it our best year & its only the end of January!

Absolutely incredible, as always thank you for sharing. Love seeing the history you guys have.

Crusader, greetings from Germany! Congradulations on your fantastic finds! You definatly killed, it those are finds that us mortals just dream about! Definatly a banner find :)

Way to go crusader...awesome hunt, congrats on the golds !!

That's just mind blowing! Big congratulations to the team! Hopefully there's more to find on that field. Banner, no doubts about it.

Wow, that's Banner in my book! Congrats!

Yes, I believe there will be more, but they are spread out over nearly 200 acres, so it's a lot of gridding. No tight hotspots, we have learnt from this that they are not near the Iron Age visible cropmarks. This has taught me to think outside of the cropmarks in future. But it's a risky strategy that can only be done when high priority targets are not available.

I vote banner anytime 3 golds pop out let alone the age of these is a banner day in my book.
You guys just kill it.
Cheers, totally get what you're saying but we can only consider 2 of them banner worth as Cru'dad is not a member of Tnet.

Congratulations and so glad you were up to a 6 hour hunt! Wish someone would invent a roomba (sp?) style bed that we could just lay on and roam and detect the grounds hanging off the edge!

THANKS ALL, for the banner votes. A day I won't forget in a hurry.

the Ambiani horse is the most stylized of all the Celtic horses and seems so modern in its rendition. These staters are my favorite of all of them.

Why don't you get your dad to join?
