Hello everyone, so i have this painting "Roman girl at a fountain" which is signed with the initials B.B. and dated, 1871. I know that the original painting by Léon Bonnat is of 1875 so i wonder how this painting was done before. There are minor changes comparing it to the Léon Bonnat version, and it is smaller. Could it be a mistake? the painting is old, it has been the last 40 years in an old attic. It has a label on the back in which it can be read the tittle and the year of the painting.
So is it possible that this was done in 1871? The original painting is in the Metropolitan Museum of New York.
