Cool find congrats!

You may want to send a picture to a museum of the collection of which you may think it might be.
I had a hard time identifying a oriental item and called different oriental museums and was informed in was a Chinese it but no one knew what it was.
They sent me a email address and I sent them photos.
The were able to read the inscription and verify that it was written in some traditional Chinese writing.
I had no clue what it was and it was baffling for months!

Its a 4th C type, no legend to properly ID, but the reverse is 'soldier spearing fallen horseman'. This reverse type is (from memory) middle to late 4th C & only a few Emporers used it, so I'll let you do the rest. (no Dad needed)

PS. it looks look it might be a 'barbarous imitation' of the forementioned type or sometimes called a local issue.

OK, just checked my email & some further details for you:

AE4: AD348-361, Diadem head right. Soldier spearing fallen Horseman type with missing legend; FEL TEMP REPARATIO.

I think dad missed a trick with it being an imitation of the above.

Thanks for the information and ID...would this be considered common? Thanks!

In roman coin terms, YES. The possible imitation angle makes it slightly more interesting but not that much rarer as these also were produced in great numbers.

Ok...I'll keep it as something that is just pretty damn cool! Thanks!
