I just know :) i work with roman coins all my life... And also on averse you can see to the right '...nvs...' which is part of some roman name, bust and type of coin, weight when you take it in hand and shape says it is roman as, on reverse theres some letters '... cos...' if im right.

I see the NVS as in the last three letters of the emperor's name, whose bust is facing right. The reverse looks like a train moving left. Just calling it as I see it; obviously not the proper attribution but battling the flu is playing tricks on my eyes--and mind.

The reverse looks like NYC ?? LI? New york Long Island RR? That might be the Statue of Liberty also...

Yeah... probably Roman statue of liberty :) or roman steam engine... but to me it looks more like roman submarine. Maybe even romans had space ships,who knows. Truth is somewhere out there...

There is very little to go on, unless you can post better pictures, or provide part of the legend, I doubt you will get a 100% ID. Looking at the condition it looks well gone, try dampaning it with a little Olive Oil, that might reveal a bit more detail.

Dads thoughts;

'Although rather big at 28mm, I believe this may be a unusually large Follis of CONSTANTINE I (can see ending NVS AVG and laureate head right) with a reverse type looking like 2 Victories facing holding Shield resting on a Altar. This is normally the VICTORIAE LAETAE PRINC PERP inscription. Circa AD319-320. I would expect weight to be 3.00 to 4.20gm in that case?'

Omg >.< Please kill me...

No,its not constantine... it is about 10 grams. Its not steam engine (even if it looks like one,i agree), and it is certanly not manchester train...

Anyway closest was wheatfinder13. I found similar examples, but averse was different and was made from silver...

Silver Searcher i tried with oil but nothing. Maybe i should try dark shoe paste,what you think? :)

You could try it, who do you think the Emperor is ? at 28mm I guess the coin is a Sestertius, given a bit for wear.

Rather dupondius cause of weight... well,i will try. I can always clean it back...i think. Never toned coin with shoe paste.

Some ideas I had for the reverse - but haven't found a match - were a "clasped hands" or prize urns. A few different emperors used clasped hands on their coins and they are on coins of that size too. But I'm still on the fence about it. :)
