Found this ring at 1880's farm site. Can't figure out what it is made of, it does have some mark inside but can't make it out. If it was copper wouldn't it be green? This looks brown and is heavy. What other metal was jewelery made of in the past? Thank you for any information.
Looks like a wearable ring. My initial thought was horse related but inside looks smooth and jewelry like to me.

It appears quite small, unless that is a very large skeleton key. I had an old “Caroms” set that had similar metal rings for one of the games. I’m not saying your is the same; just thinking out loud.

Looks like there was a mark/stamp of some sorts on the inside of the band.
There is some rust staining on the edge-have you tested it with a magnet yet?

There was a lot of gold washed wedding rings that were sold in the early days as a solid gold was too expensive for most homesteaders so the option was the gold plated ones. (Promise you dear when we get settled I'll buy you a real one)
After a century of environmental effects the gold wash disappears, and the copper/brass remains.

Nice recovery on the ring-close but still no cigar.

I'd get an acid test kit or take it to a jeweler to test. Could be a silver ring by the looks of it. What number did it ring up on your AT?

I agree with cuda. If it hit like a quarter grab some silver polish and check it out.
