I have exclusive permission to hunt an old military school site that my family is linked to, and I have been returning there for several years. It has origins in the late 1800s, and is now defunct. It has regularly produced old coins, pins and buttons from the cadets, and even civil war bullets, despite the fact that there was no history of conflict in the immediate area (several theories were offered in previous posts on how these got there).

Today, I dug this item, which I think might be a sword hanger? It looks like it has rivets on the front that could have protruded through leather or canvas. I saw some two pronged hangers on the internet, but nothing quite like this. Also, in terms of size, it seems small.

From looking at old yearbooks, I can tell that some of the cadets and instructors carried dress swords, but I could not see the hangers in the pictures. Tell me what you think!

Re: Sword Hanger? Need confirmation

You would have better luck if you posted this in
What is it. Jimbob

Re: Sword Hanger? Need confirmation

looks like the hook (I don't know the proper name) off the leather strap on a rifle, used to adjust the length of the strap
