✅ SOLVED Rifle Butt Plate?

Found this yesterday..is it an iron butt plate from a rifle or some other kind of thing? Any ideas would be appreciated.

BosnMate, thanks for so well illustrating what I was suggesting. I spoke to a knowledgable friend last night who's passion is flintlocks, and he mentioned the rarity of the cast iron plates vs the brasss ones; and how the majority of these were from Europe. Considering where this one was found, it does make sense that this one is European, maybe trade?, rather than domestic.
