Hello all hope you are all out swinging. What an end to a season today I decided to go back to a known and hunted rev war site I've had luck there before flat buttons kg coins and early American coppers. Well today I found a cannon ball I was so excited I could not believe the last person to touch this was a soldier in the rev war. Well not five minutes later and a few musket balls later I found another one. Holy smokes was I excited. Two rev war cannonballs. I'm sure they are the real deal I'm hoping I can get an expert to chime in and ask any relevant questions
I would love to confirm what I believe.

Size. 4 inches
Weight 6.1lbs

Thanks for looking eastcoast hh gl image.jpgimage.jpegimage.jpegimage.jpeg

Excellent finds ECH, still waiting on my first one to sneak under a coil. There are a couple of members around here who will be happy to help I.D. them positively, but they're going to need some precise dimensions and weights. Once you get them cleaned up it'll be much easier to tell exactly what you've got (beyond finds from an epic day of hunting).

By the way Charlie - you can't hunt with me anymore with the New Deus. I fear what you'll find!!! Lol

Nice balls! Wish I had history like that here, guess I'll stick too looking for silver.
Kyle-

Any artifact directly connected to the founding of this nation is an extra special find that deserves to be cleaned up, displayed, and treasured for all time. :D

If he does not chime in on his own, PM TheCannonballGuy to help you with them. He is a wealth of knowledge on identifying and providing information on your finds. Congrats.

No worries scrappy

By the way Charlie - you can't hunt with me anymore with the New Deus. I fear what you'll find!!! Lol

Don't worry Steve you have the "scrappy mojo " nothing can stand in your Way. Not even the deus. Right now that is. But after I master the deus. You may have a problem !!

CannonballGuy should be able to shed some light on these for you.
These type are right up his alley.

Very nice! No like someone said preservation is key. I personally like electrolysis (pending there is enough solid iron left) and hot wax to preserve my relics. I will get the cocoons off with a hammer, carefully not hitting the actual iron object. Once the major build up is off I give them a soak in the electrolysis tub. After letting them dry from the tub I cook them in paraffin wax to seal the relic from further exposure to the elements. Then brush clean, this method has worked very well for me.

When I lived in Carlisle Pa. , I found one with an old Radio Shack detector along the Letort creek.
At that time I was living at what would have been inside the old Fort Louther (Lowther).
Wish I knew where that went to.

Those are so amazing, I've never found anything from the revolutionary war period. I can't wait to see them cleaned up. Please post them back up after.

You got quite the pair there! Congrats and like mentioned, to find on a known site! priceless
