Out for a few hours at an old favorite site. Didn't dig too many targets, but was actually more than expected and me of all people actually found something.

The Loyalist Royal Provincials button was nice to see, but confirmation when I got home that my chunk of lead was indeed a Spanish 1 real casting mold is what made the day. Strangely it's for a type of real that for some reason we don't dig here, and that just adds a little more cool factor to the find.

Hey nice finds!

Even those old beat sites aren't totally beat but the finds only get thinner but the quality doesn't seem to suffer that much. It's kinda too bad that a few trips to them with nothing to show keeps us away for some reason. Now you know it only takes one decent target to redeem that

Anyone else get anything worth mentioning?

It was only me swinging, and one spectator. It was pretty thin. Did get another pewter but was so broken all there was, was the crown. Got a couple musket balls, 1850s token, and maybe 10 misc. nothings. Was more than I expected but very quiet now.

That's very true about the beat sites because I can't bring myself to go back to most of them. I probably will at some point though.

Some/most you would have to do real sweet talking to convince me to go to some again. But I wouldn't say no to many others.

You know I never really considered detecting much of a spectator sport but what ever floats your goat

I guess with no competition all the targets were yours

Just say when... I'm good 24/7.... although a surprising amount of fields are still planted. Mid. Sept. and it still feels like Summer scouting, but I guess part of that is feeling like I've been every where. There's one field we passed by that we've looked at for a long time, and I think it's good to go... at least most of it. Doesn't really look like a crop came out, maybe just turned. Part is short, and could be planted, but can't imagine what being that short. I'm talking in CV just East (behind) Bill's house. You know where the slope is. I highly doubt anything is there, and the more i think about it, I'm not sure I even want to bother. :laughing7:

2 amazing finds there IP. The 1 reale thingy is really something else for sure.

Nice...we must have checked this site a dozen times since the first and only time I hunted there...

And that's because I was very sure there would be at least one keeper left after the plow. Just too bad it's back in the beat zone now.

Excellent button and button (?) mould!

Congrats,

Buck

Ah yes I know where you mean, that area is always worth a walk for a couple of minutes anyway
Crops will be flying out this week, the weather is supposed to smarten up this week for a change

I got a couple of weeks before my dance card is clear, but I'll be buying batteries and getting some new rubber boots!

IP CONGRATS on the mold, it is real nice when old sites keeping giving up some goods here and there

Probably better waiting anyway. The Militia site would be worth a shot, as would the spot where you got the 2 reale (and me the RP), and we never did go to the creek site. So a few places to start. I did check one field in back of Mike's house in 13, but there's another very large field that was too long at the time and looks good. I probably have a few more ideas but is just going to take some time for them to enter my brain again.

It's definitely not as much fun as a new old site, but if you can get one or two keepers it's worth it.

Really good to see you getting out again...those finds are sweet and the first I see of that mold....I have to set my sites to getting out later this week....

Now THAT, I find very interesting!

Thanks for sharing!

Nice finds. RP button is cool, but never found a mold. Congrats.

The mold is a really cool find. :icon_thumright:

I'm keeping an eye on you though. If we see you posting a lot of Spanish "silver" reales in the future, that are all similar in shape and size, and your junkbox lead scraps are mysteriously missing, then something is surely amiss! :laughing7:

Nice find(s). Definitely has some cool factor.

Hey IP , that lead mould is unreal , no pun , & really like these odd and off the wall type finds , you seem to get your share of those !

Yes .... good eye :icon_cyclops_ani: dirty it could have been tossed in the scrap :icon_scratch: would the pillar dollar be more typical , :dontknow: found one of the pillar 8 reale buttons, dated 1746 , in SJ

glad to see your back outside shaking the dust off the tekter

You're right, that could have been easily tossed but I seen the very well formed circle and thought mould right away. I then seen what looked like a design and also made a guess it was a real, but didn't actually believe it was going to work out that way.

I believe this type is considered the pillar type, and the other often referred to as the bust type. It would date in the same range as your 8.
