Rev War, no War of 1812, no Civil War, ah heck it's a house from the 1600's

I am hunting around a house that is built on King's Grant land on Edisto Island, SC. This thing could be just about any age. I just have no clue what it is. Looks like a clip for something but it doesn't open. It has dimples on the top and two big ones on the tab. It is cast brass.

Ideas anyone?
