Relic Hunting
With temps in the 30s this morning in middle Tennessee and some sunny weather, Josh and I returned to Gen. Crook's U.S. Infantry, Artillery, and Cavalry camp hoping to dig a few relics even with the thick vegetation. Dman was needed in his store and felt he had better rest his shoulder a little longer as his Orthopedist gave him a good report last Monday and stopped his therapy.
This was not one of our best hunts but we managed a few finds during our 3 hour outing. Josh dug the 4 hole underwear button and found the vast majority of the bullets today. He dug two bullets in one hole. One bullet has a ramrod mark on top and it appears a soldier tried to carve a tooth like impression into the base. I dug the canteen stopper. I think the last one I dug was near Culpeper, VA in 2009.
It's back to near 90 degrees here next week so we were glad to get one last hunt in before the heat, ticks, skeeters, and snakes return. HH, Quindy.

Good hunt. Good assortment of finds.
You lucked out on the snakes. I found two today.....one nice cute little fellow, and he got flipped out of the site, into the brush.
The second....not nice, not cute....big, mean, poisenous for sure.....I tried to flip him out of the site, but he would have none of that, so his second rush at me was his last.....may he rest in peace....or pieces, whatever. Really, he was a beautiful snake, his coloring.....but he had the most triangular head of any snake that I have seen here in S. Korea.....and he was aggressive to the max.
Keep recovering those Civil War artifacts. Start a museum, so our youngsters will know a little about the history of their country.

Nice digs sir! I have seemed to have turned in my detector for my stihl chain saw after all the tornados here. One thought though is that many battle areas have many up turned large oaks with root balls and I will be detecting some maybe tomorrow. Might be a few items under those mighty oaks. Stay safe. Check out the whitworth I posted in what is it :hello:

I'm new to the forum, but not relic hunting. Nothing beats the feeling of getting the first good relic of the day. And nothing gets the rest of the relic hunters with you more competitive than to know you have found a really good find and they haven't yet. I got into relic hunting when I was fairly young.one of the old timers took me under his wing and showed me some of his good sites. Taught me a great deal of history along the way. And introduced me to others in his group. Some of these guys were relics in their own right. They were a tight group, as it appears you guys are. I appriciate seeing all the terrific finds and the ones you guys call average. They are not to most of us. A Funny thing happens as we get older and some of our group is no longer around. We look at our collection and see memories of past hunts and great friends. Keep up the good finds and thanks for sharing them with us all.

I am glad the weather gave the TENN. trio another shot at some great CW relics ! :hello2: MaineRelics
Thanks MR and we were lucky to get that one in. I had already resorted to a little house hunting. That's not my thing either. HH, Quindy.

Awesome hunt. It blows my mind that so many CW relics are still coming out of the ground. Gives me hope for future hunts.
Birdman, understanding what went on there and how camps were laid out is a key factor. HH, Quindy.

I think I woould have ripped the door off my truck getting out of there-LOL. All the Tenn. Trio members have donated CW relics to schools, local historical societies, given kids bullets, etc. We are dedicated to preserving CW history. HH.

I will Richard. The pics you sent me of your neighborhood and the 100 year old oaks snapped like twigs was scary. I'm glad you and your family are safe. Thanks for looking Bud, Quindy.

I agree S & R and welcome to Tnet. Every relic that a hunter puts in a display box triggers a memory of good friends, good hunts, and will be fun to look at when one gets too old or physically unable to hunt. Thanks for looking and replying, Quindy.

Dawg, I doubt they were frozen but moving pretty slow. I'm glad we didn't find out how fast they weere moving-LOL. I would have moving fast if I saw one. HH, Quindy.

Well it's a good dang thing you went last week. :D Those snakes are buzzing all around I'm sure with the heat we've been handed this week. :P Speaking of buzzing and jungles, the cicada population grew to about a billion around here this week. It's so loud outside you couldn't hear a rattlesnake if you were standing beside one. :P

Congrats on all those finds...and hurry up winter!
