Relic Hunting
With temps in the 30s this morning in middle Tennessee and some sunny weather, Josh and I returned to Gen. Crook's U.S. Infantry, Artillery, and Cavalry camp hoping to dig a few relics even with the thick vegetation. Dman was needed in his store and felt he had better rest his shoulder a little longer as his Orthopedist gave him a good report last Monday and stopped his therapy.
This was not one of our best hunts but we managed a few finds during our 3 hour outing. Josh dug the 4 hole underwear button and found the vast majority of the bullets today. He dug two bullets in one hole. One bullet has a ramrod mark on top and it appears a soldier tried to carve a tooth like impression into the base. I dug the canteen stopper. I think the last one I dug was near Culpeper, VA in 2009.
It's back to near 90 degrees here next week so we were glad to get one last hunt in before the heat, ticks, skeeters, and snakes return. HH, Quindy.

Love your TN finds!!!! Low 30's is great diggen weather!!! Snakey out west.... Great Job again!

LOL "This was not one of our best hunts" I was floating on a cloud for a week the ONE time I found ONE three ringer and then the time I found one small Eagle Cuff button!!!

Those are great finds. Good job.

A "handful of bullets" helps pass the day :icon_thumleft:  It was nice here today as well, I invited James Bibb down and we dug yesterday and today. We both got a handful of bullets, eagle buttons and he got a BEAUTIFUL War of 1812 Navy Eagle Coat with most the gilt! I know what you mean about skeeteers too, they were already starting to creep out and bite today >:(. Nice hunt fellas :icon_thumleft:

Still looking good at the Ole' Camp Quindy......That right there would keep me warm  Great job guy's!!

Way to go boys. Who bought lunch?

As I'm sure you recall, Josh dug the last Eagle button but conveniently left his money in his truck AGAIN. He was afraid you would find out-LOL. Get ready to play Tonto and go scouting next week. Q.

30 degrees will keep the snakes away, but not the dedicated Detectorist :laughing7:
Nice score on the carved lead and stopper ;D

Nice finds Quindy. I know what you mean about the vegetation. I went into the woods last weekend and thought I was in a jungle. Wasn't too bad once I got inside but getting there was a chore. Probably last hunt in there until this fall and winter. Your collection is adding up fast. Nice canteen stopper.

Way to go guys. The Tenn Trio did well. Dman was with you in spirit. I like that canteen stopper Q. Something you don't see every day. Congrats on the "I" button in this issue of American Digger.
You guys are unstoppable. :hello2:

Another great hunt there Quindy! Have been thinking about you guys lately, hope everything is going good!

Steve

Great finds Quindy! Dirty lead is always a welcome site. Looks like I will be stuck up here in Cincy doing some local relic or coinhunting until Memorial weekend to head south again. Bill

ME22, usually someone finds a uniform button so it wasn't up to our usual standards. We enjoy all the relics we find here because it's all CW history.HH, Quindy.

Joe, it was up to 70 deg. before we left at noon so we beat the heat. HH, Quindy.

You guys did real well in 3 hours! Heck I don't find that in a 8 hour hunt sometimes! I have found 2 canteen necks but still looking for my first stopper! Way to beat the heat & the snakes guys!
Rob, this one was brass and it read like a button or shotgun brass. I have dug one made of iron. Hope you get one. It's one of those wish list items that's not a big deal but fun to find. HH, Quindy.

Randy, you and Guy have had the above average rainfall in East Tennessee too and the grass and foliage seems way ahead for early May. Good luck, Quindy.

Thanks Dug. I believe that's the 3rd one I have dug. The circle on the handle makes them give a good signal. HH this weekend my friend, Q.

All is well Steve and Doug's shoulder is improving daily. I'm looking forward to your post of the State Militia cross belt plate that you dug recently at the old home in VA. HH, Quindy.

I wish you and your Dad good hunting that weekend Bill. I hope your "Relic Roll' continues. Thanks, Quindy.

Those are some great recoveries there Quindy. Hunted in the woods last weekend....and worried about snakes the whole time. I was a nervous reck. :laughing7: HH!

Thanks Colleen. I'm afraid we are in for a hot summer. I'm already looking forward to Fall. No till farming really hurts relic hunting and looking for Indian relics. If more farmers plowed the land, there would be a better chance of someone seeing a CW bullet and telling somebody. Take care, Quindy.

i will take a day of hunting CW relics that anytime !
Thanks Al. What I told Collen above hurts you too as you detect and eyeball great Indian relics as one can see in your avatar. Good luck Buddy, Quindy.

I am glad the weather gave the TENN. trio another shot at some great CW relics ! :hello2: MaineRelics

Awesome hunt. It blows my mind that so many CW relics are still coming out of the ground. Gives me hope for future hunts.
