Metal Detecting
Haven't been out detecting sense early December. Finally got out today and decided to hit an old house that I got permission to detect. I don't have a detector at the moment so I used my son's Ground EFX youth detector. It doesn't go very deep, maybe 3 inches at the most but it was fun. I can't wait to get an AT Pro out there. On to the finds...

I found 3 wheat pennies and 1 memorial. 1945-D, 1940, 1934, 1970-D. I also found my first harmonica reed along with a ton of other neat finds and trash. Not sure what some of it is or what they go to, like the shims. I added a few photos of the site. Enjoy...

I do like the wind up key. I'm guessing it goes to a clock of some kind and the glass tube I assume is a resistor out of a TV or radio.

Great bunch of old relics. When I saw the "wind up" key, I thought it was a gas key. When you look at the pics of the structure, you can't help but wonder at what's waiting for you next time. You're right about the tube.....it was the precursor to today's transistors, used in many old electronic devices and still sought after by musicians worldwide today still.

I have one of those lapping compound containers with lapping compound. It is a paste (I think grease) with silicone carbide or something similar and is used to polish or mostly hone down metal, like when a gunsmith jewels a bolt. Good stuff to have on hand if you do any metal working.

That's what I thought it was. Curiosity got the best of me and I opened it to see if anything was hidden inside. It was empty...

Found out the key is a Waterbury Clock Co. winding key. I cleaned it and for the maker stamp. Still have no idea about the date.

Cool site like that you posted a picture

Thanks. I just got permission to hunt to other sites that look similar. Here is a picture of one site. Thinking about getting an AT Pro or a F75 LTD. Not sure which would be better for the type of detecting I do.

I'd be pounding that place! As old as that house is there should be at least a few barber and seated coins somewhere near it. Good luck!

Any suggestions on what machine would be better for the job? I have a $1200 budget. Yay Taxes!!!

I like those old doorknobs, you going to give them a bath to get the rust off?

Yeah they go with the rim lock I found a while back. I'm in the process of restoring it and I'll clean the knobs also. I have everything one would need to install them on a door, just no key.

Definitely AT Pro territory.
There should be some much much older items on that property.

That what I'm thinking, just need a machine that can reach them.

I might be a little bias.. But that's exactly what I use in situations just like that.

I don't want to tell you what to do but the at pro is what I would pick can take it in water or rain I don't know nothing about the other one your talking about but my at pro has made me happy. Very cool sites I wish I could join you lol
