Resting Beneath a Pot of Gold

I am a man obsessed with the mysteries of artifacts and treasures, and I have devoted much of my life to this fascinating field. I also have another hobby — hunting — and the two interests have always gone hand in hand. As I wandered through mountains and deserts in search of game, I often stumbled upon strange symbols, ancient graves, and old ruins. I would spend time exploring them, inspecting every detail, and enjoying the thrill of discovery.

In one of the areas I frequently visit for rabbit hunting, I often walk distances that sometimes exceed 15 kilometers on foot. There, I found a small cave that became my regular resting spot. I would retreat to its cool shade to recover from the exhausting trek, smoke a few cigarettes, and drink some water. What made this cave unique — and the reason I always returned to it — was the refreshing coolness and humidity inside. It felt as though the cave had its own air conditioning.

At first, I didn’t associate this cave with treasure hunting. But one intriguing feature always caught my eye: a pile of stones stacked neatly on top of it.

I should also mention that the ceiling of the cave had a circular feature resembling the dome of a mosque — but inverted, as if it were the belly of a pregnant woman. I always thought it was a natural formation.

As time passed, I continued visiting the cave regularly. One day, something extraordinary happened that left me utterly stunned. Some people had apparently come to the cave and worked on its ceiling from above. I don’t think they used anything more than a chisel and a small hammer. To my amazement, that “pregnant” circle collapsed, revealing what appeared to be a pot filled with gold — or so I believe, without a doubt.

The pot, carved from stone, had four handles on its sides. Unfortunately, it was broken into three pieces and still lies on the cave floor. Its original place on the ceiling is unmistakable. Even now, you can see hooks that were likely used to secure the pot by its handles.

You can imagine my shock, disbelief, and even despair. I had known this place intimately for years, spending countless hours inside it, yet I had never uncovered its secret.

Of course, I entered the cave and rested there as usual. I remember smoking a lot of cigarettes and staying for more than two hours, staring up at the ceiling and feeling a deep sense of regret. Eventually, I removed the bullet from my rifle and made my way back home, utterly disheartened.

Since that day, I have never returned to that cave or the hunting area around it.
