I'm trying to find some older 1800's maps of my area and other counties I hunt. I have one that I obtained several years back but it was from a friend. trying to find some online before going to the county clerks office.

Any web sites that you use to pull up these older maps. The one I have shows older homes near the roads that say Dr. Johnson, widow parsons ect.

any help would be great.

thanks and HH

Library and historical society...

Maybe you can tell us where you are so we can help out?

I am in Texas and I use the library online archives.

It is a treasure trove of information as well as the online historical society for treasure leads and maps.

I Just found over 200 maps online that was downloaded and made available from a collection from 1840.

These show original plats and measurements in Vera's as well as some original towns that I was looking for and could not get info on until now.

Also pay a visit to your main library archives, its amazing what they do have. I found a book published on the history of Texas in 1884. It was still in the Library! amazing what you find.

There are some sites that sell maps but I have never bought them. I find with a little research I can find them for free.

Check with the local genealogical societies as well.....

i'm in tn and looking for 1800's maps of rutherford, coffee and bedford counties. I'm also going home to WV this summer and would like to get some maps of that area as well, plan on hunting with a new MDing friend and would like to have some location aready picked out besides the old home places I know of right off the bat. I have one old map that shows homes at that time (1800's) from here in tn and I'm able to track them down from the waterways mainly due to the roads changing so much. made some good finds that way
