Just curious...
What is a "reproduction" coin and why does it get "reproduced"?
What type of "value" do reproduction coins have, if any?
Is it legal tender like an authentic government issued circulation coin?

f.Y.I. , No. Reproductions have no connection to real coins,
other then shape & some detail, Reproductions only have value to the persons
involved in their sale & Purchase.

If it does not say repro or copy somewhere on it,
it can be considered counterfeit.
but I personally don't know the legalities when sold with the explicit
note it is a Repro, as this one is.

What is a "reproduction" coin and why does it get "reproduced"? Usually Marked Reproduction, in this case this is a Chinese made Counterfeit Coin.
What type of "value" do reproduction coins have, if any? Well, I have tried to sell this for over 2 years. I paid 20.00 for it cause I thought it was cool.
Is it legal tender like an authentic government issued circulation coin? No. This is NOT legal tender. It is a counterfeit copy of an 1846 Seated Liberty Dollar. It has not value other than its an exact replica, counterfeit and its cool. LOL!

I hear ya Jeff. I am not trying to upset anyone or pass off couterfeit coins. It is the only counterfeit coin I ever owned.

Based on this link:

The United States Mint Coins and Medals Program

I'm guessing it is illegal to sell that coin. I wouldn't be surprised if it is illegal to possess it.

No hard feelings - I'm trying to help you out here. Bottom Line: You could create for yourself a whole lot of trouble for twenty bucks.

Good luck to all,

I have one too, but not for sale. It is an 1846 CC. One of my favorite counterfeits the other is a 1909 S VDB cent. It was give to me by a coin store owner. I asked him what would i get if i sold it. He smiled and said "20 years"

I think Jeff is correct.

Illegal to sell or possess. You better get a die set and punch "copy" into it. You can do serious jail time for multiple felonies for selling it.

If I hadn't already served 20 years I'd consider buying it.
A very interesting piece, any opinions as to modern or period ???

It appears to be nickel as opposed to silver. Wouldn't that be enough to identify it as a repro?

No. If you photocopy a dollar bill, it is clearly paper and not linen used by the mint, but it's still a felony to create, possess or sell. Copies have to be permanently and conspicuously marked as such.

The Coin was made to deceive...Im not going to Lie..when i first saw them on Ebay, I bought pretty much one fake of each...I just wanted to see what they really looked like compared to the Real Deal.
This was 3 years ago...Then I started hearing stories of people gettign ripped off by coin shops selling these, it sort pissed me off...The coins i own, I have actually taken a scour pad to them and brought out the Brassy White metal they are made of...The Peace and Morgan Dollars coins that is.

Although it is cool being able to see what these coins looked like....on the other hand...You have so many Jackwagons out there trying to rip people off.

I know you arent claiming its real or anything...but i think it would be better to hold on too...its a cool coin....But there is a fine line when selling these..

I bought a couple of those off ebay once. They'll have a C or say copy stamped on them somewhere on the edge or back. I used a pair to cover 2 holes on my bumper on my Goldwing. I picked up a nice front bumper but it didn't have the 2 side reflectors.Perfect fit and looked custom. People thought they were real. I used JB Weld to attach them. Looked sharp and the stamping that said copy was on the side you couldn't see.

Let me assure you that not all fakes display the 'copy' stamp :hello:
