Quick thread on how to repair a glass bottle. There are two main types of glass glue that are considered archival; the one I used here which is locktite 349, and the second being hextal. the One I used here is uv curing, where as the hextal is a two part 24 hour cure. The hextal is the best and optically closest for glass(helps eliminate seam line). It can also be ground and polished like glass, and tinted and cast into missing pieces from glass objects. The uv glued can only be used on flush clean surfaces but is stronger bond than the glass its self if done correctly, so it was ideal for this clean bottle break. This bottle had a running crack already that could not be glued. So I went with the easier to use glue. You could even set this up and let it cure in the sunlight if you don't have a uv light and its actually recommended to do a final cure in the sun after setting with the uv light. The most important part is to clean the surfaces with denatured alcohol and to get a thin even line down the center of the of the two surfaces that when pressed in between the glass will fill the crack with out too much overflow. Luckily this uv glue is easily cleaned up with a bit of denatured alcohol or water before curing if you get too much and it seeps out. Then you put together and keep pressed or lightly clamped while you set with the light, then final cure for an hour in the sun.
