Sooooo...

mical66 thanks for the source.
One of the images was the backside with the inscription in Greek!

Joseph.webp

The text goes:

"Token of the 25th anniversary 1939-22-XII-1964 of the ordinatio of the Patriarch and Metropolit Joseph and his election as Cardinal 22-XII-1965 by the Holy Father Pope Paul VI"

If the image on the find is identical with the one on the token/medallion (I don;t see the staff...), It could be a medallion with the image of the Ukranian Patriarch Josyf Slipyj...

Patriarch Josyf Slipyj

But the images are not sharp enough to determine that...

Oh, I just read the date of the site this was found at... way out of context with the "patriarchal theory"...

I'll try a new search...

hi yaxthri,
i know this token i posted a picture of is not the same as the little one the OP posted due to this token was in memory of pope john paul , but my point was the man on the Token ( who i know is not pope john paul ) with the crown , the cross and staff looks allot like the pose i see on the posters find. and also show that these types of medals have been around for a long time , since the guy that made the token i posted founded his business in 1830's . i understand the token i showed was made by his company after his death .
again i was not trying to ID the posters find as the same as the picture i found, just using my picture as a example :)
keep up the good work guys and we can ID this .

Looks like aluminum to me! Likely 20th Century.

The powdery cancer that is showing on the edge of the dug medallion, is consistent with what I have seen on aluminum that has been buried for a few decades.

Thats what I thought. Any talk of a 19th century item is unfounded. Its 20th century.

There are millions probably trillions of these cheap aluminum Catholic religious medals made in the 20th century. They are very hard to ID and maybe its better to search in the 20th century for a match of the image.

It looks very familiar. I believe I have seen the image before

that looks pretty durn close BigC
I realize you were just looking for a matching image but to identify the century first will give you an better idea of where to search. I think aluminum was considered more expensive than gold in the 19th century. So that tells us it 20th c. It may even be anodized. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anodizing

Keep up the good work.
