hey guys been super busy but have managed to get out a few times. I scored a 175? Spanish coat of arms half reale yesterday while managing some bullets and a bunch of nice early buttons. I have a few ID items i need help with. One is the large brass object that almost looks to be a mold? It has lots of tooling marks on it and its been driving me crazy trying to figure this one out! Also the object with the rings and hook on the end ive never ran across before. Its cast brass and came from a pre CW homesite along with lots of the bullets. ANd Finnaly my wife was detecting with me on one of the outings when she called me over and said she thought she had a copper! So i took off accross the feild and saw what I strongly believe may be a Spansih Hammered Copper maravedi!! Its toasted but I told her that there was a huge story behind this coin and just how old I thought it was! Any input is greatly appreciated!

James

Hey James,

Spanish is always good, we love the Spanish.

I was going to say you were lucky your wife was into detecting.

But then I thought about it.

Maybe you are.

Her Copper looks ancient.

You might want to try the hot peroxide bath to bring out the details.

Inquiring minds want to know.

The hook and rings item is a sword hanger.

Great stuff!

Best Wishes,

Welcome back Sir James. :hello2:
Some great finds there by both you and your better half. I think that piece with the rings in it is horse tack related. I know I've seen a few on here before. I'll see if I can find a post.
Congrats,
Doug

P.S. to Deno:

It looks like he has already used water to clean the copper coin, so Peroxide will not show anything new. The patina is already gone. :-\

Hey thanks for the great replies everyone. Ive tried the peroxide method and yes my wife used water.... but she didnt know and thats ok since if it had any detail you would still be able to see it. It was most likely a poorly sruck coin to start with a couple hundred years of ground action. Its an ancient coin though thats for sure. Thanks fellas for the ID help!

Congrats on some great finds James. I hope to see you in March at Culpeper.

Nice diggins James (and wife :icon_thumleft:). Can't help you on any ID's though.

HISPAN will tell you for sure, but doesn't look right to me as a Maravedi. Looks more like a Georgian thats had a rough time.

Nice finds. You definitely have a virgin site. Keep going back there's more to find. I came across a similar site several years ago and I'm still finding some good targets. When they turn the soil it will be just like you had never been there before . I regret that I never GPS the targets, I did do photos though.

Good point, everyone should pick up on
