*NOTE* I originally posted this in the civil war thread. Couldn't figure out how to move it so I copy pasted. Sorry for newbie mistake. :P

All of the following finds come from an 1800's mansion. General Grant stayed there at one point during the Civil War. Most of these items I have identified and know what they are, but I need help on dating them. Here's what I have:

I dug some flat buttons and one is interesting.
Upon closer examination of them, I noticed one says "EST" with "–––>>>>>>" going around in a circle on the back of it.
Originally I thought EST would be standing for when the company was made, but after checking where the date should be (in theory) on the opposite side of EST, it's not there. Only more ">>>>" my assumption is that EST is the end of a word. I have attached pictures so maybe you can help identify it.
If you can't help with that, can you suggest any NON-ABRASIVE cleaning methods to bring out some detail? I'd appreciate it.

1. Appears to be a plate from an electric pole or GE appliance. Patent March 11, 1919.

2. Some kind of flat/round button with shank. Age?

3. Some kind of buckle. Appears to be iron.

9. Pistol ball. Caliber? Age?

10. Small button. Clip to another button style.

11. Jeans button. Copper? Age?

12. Button. Very bent. Metal. Two holes. Age?

13. Looks like a chess piece but inside is threaded. Maybe like the top of a lamp?

14. Flag Grommet? Age?

15. Buckle. Type? Age?

17. Small button. Don't care too much about this.

18. Shoe Buckle? Found like that in hole.

19. Mushroom Bullet? Not sure...

20. Large flag grommet?

Again thanks for all your help. Can't wait to see what you all come up with.

Gabe.... I can't ID everything as I'm not that sharp but I think your button has the word "BEST" on it. I've seen them with BEST QUALITY ect. #3 is of course a small iron buckle that had many uses. #7 is actually a suspender buckle from around 1880-1920's. #14 & 20 are either tent grommets or poncho grommets (eyelets) #11 is a brass leather brad used to hold leather pieces together # 13 is a finial for maybe a small lamp or anything else but it is a finial. #19 is a lead cover for a roofing nail #9looks like about a .28 caliber round ball that could date really early but hard to tell. I like the way that you posted your stuff by laying it out with numbers beside it, good idea and hope this helps a little. I know there are others that will know a lot more. Tennessee digger

Thanks for your help. Very very insightful. Never would have guessed that.

Number 8, umbrella tip or possibly the tip for a modern target arrow? By modern I mean wood arrows, not the really new stuff.
