Relic hunting vs coin vs jewelry

I call what I do Treasure Hunting. Simply because , I keep hopeing one day I'll find one. But to get to your question. I guess what I realy do & like is RELIC Hunting , because I enjoy digging all targets.? ? ? ? ? ? I have to agree with you on Coin hunting , to a degree. Anything 1900 & newer I take but , don't realy get a Personal Thrill out of it. Any coin dated 1899 and earlier, I consider Relics, so they are still prety cool finds to me.

I hear ya Jeff, I'll take 1899 and before anyday!! but,

it's few and far in between in these parts around here so,

I stick with the others more!

Jewelry and relic hunting just don't seem to go along together in my experience. When I hit a site and find an old dump, well or what have you I'd hope to find coinage for easy dating but I like digging the RIO's just fine. When I'm in carnie cleanup mode or doing the park/playground routine I expect to find coins and jewelry and do. When I'm coinshooting for older coins I certainly hope to find the older stuff. But sometimes walk away with deep clad. Yep, hate to get to what I think is a fairly unhunted and undeveloped site and start finding coins from the 60's and 70's at the 6+ inch level but it happens and the old coins at such a site may be completely out of reach due to backfill or landscaping.

YEP! I like it all but I also prefer anything, coins or relics, before 1900. If I detect it & dig it & it's a keeper, then it's treasure to me. Spotz

;D thats a hard one love them all, but guess if i had to choose it would be relic ,love the history that goes with it.as i hunt civil war relics most of my time

I "dig" --pun intended :) -- relic hunting the most. History just fascinates me and the research is just as fun to me as the actual finding of the items. I guess it's the whole idea of digging something and putting my eyes on,...being the first person to do so in the past 100+ years! Wow! It's really a cool thought,....at least I think it is :)

Relic hunting for me. Nothing like the site of a Civil War skirmish or campground to get my blood running. A few balls and a button or two and I'm in heaven. Coinshooting? Only if I'm really, really bored. Half the time I head to the beach I FEEL like I'm coinshooting even if I'm really treasure hunting :-)

Happy hunting,
BobJ

Since I have been detecting for about a few weeks to a month I enjoy it all but maybe it will change with time. But it's all fun and keeps on getting more enjoyable each time out. Even more so since when I go I am with someone and it turns into a game of who can find the most exciting find of the day.
WODD...

Ohh its more than a game brother Wodd/
(example)> found a nickel once, he said if i didnt give'm a dime by friday
heed whip my @$$. :o

I reckon thats what i get for being the younger brother

Since, I'm still a newbie, I'll admit to liking all of it. Anything thats not a nail, bottlecap or pulltab is a cool find in my eyes. I would love to find some old, historical relics, a 24K diamond ring or necklace, or a cache of old coins. As for clad, well, I'm not getting rich off of my finds, but I won't put it back in the ground either, lol! I agree with Jeff that treasure hunting is how I think of it. I just spend my time finding money in between finding the treasure chests full of gold doubloons and the Revolutionary War cannons!!

Right now I like coinshooting best because you almost always get something to show for your efforts. Being a novice I like instant gratification! My goal is relics and like most I am a hostory buff. When I find something old but undated I like to hold it in my hand and "feel" the history in it. Is that weird or what? I feel I can almost recreate the moment the item was lost or misplaced, who held it and how it came to be there. Vivid imagination? You bet, afterall that's what history is all about. Sometimes knowing the facts gets in the way of a good fantasy. I even go so far as to invent a story in my mind as to how the object came to be here but I can still differentiate between fact and fiction in reality. So far! If I ever go nuts I hope lit's in that direction. I'm getting there one brain cell at a time! :D

I think thats the leo in you Jim :D Actually I feel the same way tho' when it comes to Relics

I like jewelry and clad hunting because I can turn the modern clad into gold ;D You forgot to mention nugget hunting in your post that's my next venture after I get my LOBO next week! ;D

TESERO, Onion, COOOOOOOL :) Can't wait to see how you like it .

Sounds like a Question to post in TECH TALK. I'm not up on WHY you would need a different coil

What ever I find I like but...Meteorites are my " LOVE" favorite and I guess I am dam stuck on finding them.It is a pain stakenly thing to do..but really gets your heart a going when you find a rock that detects and is magnetic...I like coins too.Old and new..A penny found is a penny earned thats for sure..new or old! rings and necklace next! relic hunting is on my buttom list.I keep copper stuff and brass too you can get money at the junk yard for that stuff if you find enough! That Lobo is a good machine and finds gold..Thats my next machine to buy! Water proof and gold finder with notch and junk eliminate button controll..I do not like the picture thing sound is better It makes you listen and stop looking while missing things too!

Haven't got my Tesoro Lobo ST yet but I know I will like it all. The coin shooting to get up to speed with the machine when I get it and to spend some time with my great nephew, he looooves money and treasure. He will be my main helper when coin shooting. He about freaked out when I told him you could find money...lol. He will help with it all I am thinking as he loves to look through the driveway for neat rocks.

I have a post going on the coil question. Just posted it a little while ago.

Been getting lots of help on this site and really feeling at home.

Thanks and GH,

gunny

Well I guess the first thing I go for on a new hunting site is the big trees with an 8in.coil to see if there are any coins lost long ago and then I hit the rest of the area
using a 12in.coil for anything else that might be there.
Darn I like finding it all but since I hunt for the coins and or jar full of coins first I guess that makes me a coin shooter....But no darn parks :P unless there is nothing else to hunt.
I prefer old sites to hunt.
