Found three of these SC Civil War coat or vest buttons in pristine shape in an attic of a 1700's homestead, I searched every crevice of this attic. Gave one to my new hunting buddy that was with me, aren't I nice?

Awesome finds!! A "Dream Day" for you for sure, congrats! I wish I could have a day like that.

;) RR

You will RR, You will. Congrats on the finds and thanks for posting.

I'm not sure if the buckles are Civil War or just belt or harness buckles. It's really great to be able to post an actual photo of any item for identification. I'm sure you'll get some good advice and help with the buckles. The buttons? I wish I'd have been with you and you gave me one! Those alone were worth the attic hunt let alone the wool carder. You should be real proud of the three button find. Congratulations on finding some real nice condition buttons. Have you detected the yard area yet? Great buttons!

I'm holding a 45 Colt automatic copper bullet in my hand, and it looks similiar to yours. But we have real great ammo and gun experts here that can tell you for sure. Great bunch of finds woodspiritcarver.

Great day you had ;) I like those clamps and the sprocket. It must of taken a fair amount of time to carve that sprocket out.
The buttons look very special.

God bless
Peter

What is a hand carter? there were hiding under the floorboards and they are stuck together I looks like a bed of tiny nails.

thanks stoney56 that is awesome, I cant imagine having to do that to make material, makes you feel kind of spoiled to know your ancestors had to break a sweat to just simply have one blanket or shirt in their closet

Great finds. Nice to see you hunting with and without the detector.
Thanks, I'm also going to try my hand at digging a well and privy on Monday, I like the idea of experiencing the whole aspect of relic hunting, It's really exciting. I've always had a little voice telling me to look in inconspicuous places for that unknown old thing that could be lost over time.

Kinda makes y'realize why they'd mention a blanket, or coat in their will.

Good job Stoney, on finding that link.

I used to work at a historic home and they had a wooden mallet (above the pic of the hand cards) that they used for making wooden pegs. (Square peg forced thru a round hole by bashing the thing with the mallet. Honest!)

The "wooden button" - pic above the keys - it kinda looks like the top of a spinning wheel bobbin. Does the center of it kinda come to a point on one side? Or does it have a groove along the edge?

You really did get some cool stuff! Good luck with the next hunt

nice stuff! just FYI, the batteries and shotgun cartridges are worth ebaying if you dont end up keeping them (lots of folks dont know that people collect those).

Look at the top of the page beside author. Looks like a rekindle. LOL

Ok now I see it, it shows up there but on my end does not show up on the todays find main page. It must not show up for the person who posted the original post.

the button is flat on the bottom and slightly concaved on the top, no groove around the edge. Thanks for the good luck, I'll keep you posted

Last night I found the small buckle in Warmans Civil War Collectibles book, page 15, 100% match. Wood drum / cedar canteen buckle. It would have been nice if canteen was with it, They sold between $520 and $9000.
