i have never dredged any where but i would be ware of any of the coastal rivers here in the southeast area. dont know your location, but, many pipelines line the bottoms of the rivers. some you can see at the rivers' edges and some you cannot.

Dredgeing wouldent harm any pipelines as it is like a big vacum cleaner operated by hand But I will def. take the advice, you can go to keene enginerring and see a picture of one,(but not a close up of the sluice box) it also has the hooka air supply pump for underwater breathing. I purchased the hooka system part and am putting it together this weekend I hope to use it in sommerville next weekend for some shallow water hunting, :) I have found some change there, a pocket knife, and a watch that had moss growing in the arm band but was actually still working and once cleaned came out useable.
I went to san marcus last weekend and did some detecting I found 2 strong signals behind some big rocks in the current right where heavy metal would collect but the gravel was so packed I couldent break it up, a dredge will suck all that gravel out while you work the rocks and you can clean clear to the bedrock, There is no telling how much stuff is down there, I believe it would be the hot spot for a dredge- as well as new braunsfels, or frio river. I would love to find a intrested party to help with this project.

You know that is pretty much true I have been snubed off by 3 game wardens in 3 ctys when asking about it, they wont even return my call, In llano cty I have yet to get a straigte answer, except folks drege for gold all the time, the only law I know for a fact is NO DREGINGING IN RESIVOIRES, I even met one guy who was told by the park ranger in a state pk he could not metal detect, but I have done it and gotten waved at by them. Go figure

like i said. i haven't dredged before, but, i have seen a dredge or two. don't know aboutthe differenttypes, but, it's good t oknow it is suction only. i live in houston and go to the hill country a few times a year, such as enchanted rock-llano area. i hear there could be good things in that area, if you know what i mean. i know that any river work can be tiresome alone. i would be interested in giving that place a shot a couple of times a year. getting tired being home-bound so much.... have been to somerville once. beautiful place. will take the family there again. anyway. i am in fact an interested party. at 34 i am still a big kid and find it exciting to prospect. i consider the search the whole the fun of anything. there are several places in new braunsfels that will just go dead over the cooler months. low traffic and low water level should provide excellent search conditions. the river is very low there right now. was there about 2 months ago. lotsa tube portage.

beer in cans keeps u out of the can!

here are a couple plans i found. the second one might be quite suited to a couple of the locations you suggested as there the rock litter is very small.

Hi you said you found some planes? they must not have come across my mail I dident see them My email is [email protected] or if you can tell me the sight I 'm on it , all I have left to complete the dredge is a 6.5 hp engine with 5/8 shaft, and the sluice box ,and hoses. I have the air, floates, and 3 inch pump. I def need a partner once completed my phone #is 254 697 3718 or 979 218 5109 Thanks Albert

Don't have any pics or plans, but basically they look like a pachinko game... instead of riffles, they have pegs sticking up each row offset from the last. Catches chains, rings, etc. but not rocks and sand. Hope this helps.

This one looks like the old header box dredges. Short box about 2 feet long with pegs. The basket is for coins?.....Art

We used a 4in. gold dredge, riffles and all and floated a 2 ft x 3 ft wooden frame with sides and bottom covered in 1/4 in hardware cloth. Dredged at Marinas, Docks and swimming areas. The riffles will let the halves and quarters drop out in the sluice and the gold rings and chains also. Dimes will not pass through the 1/4 in. hardware cloth and the floating catch basin will keep all broken glass etc. from going back in the water. Never had problems with marina ,swimming area owners after we showed them all the broken glass, trash, etc that we were removing from their location. IT IS WELL WORTH THE EFFORT to get permission to dredge these locations. At one old dock where they gassed up the boats, built in 1940, we took out literaly hundreds of siver coins, 2 diamond rings and over 300 dollars in clad coins. Still looking for another like it! Fall is the best time, no one swimming to get in the way. Just be sure to give the owner a sample of your silver,we gave 2 each of halfs, quarters, and dimes and haul off all trash. Now is the perfect time . Good hunting.
