Today I needed a good "think walk". So, I went back to my favorite place to hunt, the old mansion.

The finds are getting further and further between but just being there does my heart good. Just imagine, when you stand up from that last piece of can-slaw you carefully dug. You look around and it's like you've been transported back in time. A huge mansion, giant trees, large expansive green lawns! Somehow it just makes one feel so much better! But, I digress. ;)

There were only two coins today but that was fairly expected. Still, I completely enjoyed my walk and the place never fails to be interesting to me. Here's the relics, feel free to comment if you recognize any of them.

Hand forged?

2014 (785).jpg
A prototype barrel for the "shoot around a corner" gun

:dontknow:

188?

2014 (796).jpg

Either lead or pewter.

2014 (797).jpg

The back.

Then, there was this piece.

2014 (800).jpg2014 (801).jpg

Dimpled on one end.

2014 (802).jpg

Hammer? Handle to a bullet remover? Faucet? Gas Valve? :dontknow:

Then the piece de resistance. This one was a funny dig!
I happened to get down to where I could see the ring, and the gold, then of course
I slowed down to savor the moment. Looked like any other gold ring I'd found before.
I could easily see the rim just above the dirt in the bottom of the hole. I went to take
some pics and, no battery. :(

So, I reached in, figuring to just flick the ring into the open with my finger and it wouldn't budge.

:icon_scratch:

I gently pulled and it took more than I expected to get it to start moving! As it uncovered I said,
"Is this a pipe!!!? "

Finally, it pulled free! I just couldn't believe it! LOL

Like I said, this place is ALWAYS interesting! :)

Of course, Blingie is in over his head again. ;)

Thanks for peeking!

Gold? Dang I thought it was copper.Lol. I need to pay attention better.

Looks like you had a very enjoyable walk while bringing home the gold! Nice! You won't have to worry about a door pass for quite a while, especially if Blingie's head gets stuck!

Life would be boring with out a little weirdness now and then. You always come up with surprises! WTG!

Cool stuff! A good day indeed! Congrats!!!

Yeah, I really did have one of the most pleasant walks I've had in quite a while. Did a lot of thinking too. Didn't solved the world peace problems yet, but, I'm working on it. :)

I've always been a bit "different" so finding the weirdness is something normal for me. Really keeps it interesting. LOL

But, now you see why I picked my screen name. ;)

Thanks!

Thanks guys!

Yeah, the "tap handle" is a puzzler. It seems pretty small to be for a water faucet. It is a VERY solid piece of brass/bronze and pretty heavy for it's size. Both ends are approximately 1/2 inch wide. It does appear to be a handle to a tap or maybe even something like a jeweler's hammer of some sort. I thought maybe a handle to something that removes bullets but it seems too heavy for that. :dontknow:

About the "still finding pieces" and large ones? Well, each time I go back I'm a little more experienced and a bit smarter about where to look. It took me a full 5 1/2 hours to find all that this time. I concentrated on spots not easily hunted. Under trees with low limbs, bushes, shrubs, etc. Also, I know quite a bit more about hearing things in between the iron now. Also, occasional changes to the landscaping helps.

I've heard that no place can be hunted out. Well, unless someone takes about a mile of topsoil off, I sort of agree. At least, that is, until there's nothing left to find. Then, yeah, it's hunted out. ;)

Remember though, I am first and foremost, a coinshooter. It's what I love to find. So, 2 coins? In 5 1/2 hours? Yeah, that's pretty far between. 1961 & 188? also, pretty far apart! LOL

Thanks again guys!

That "tap handle" is an outside faucet handle/hose bib handle, I remember those when I was a kid. Not so much installing them, more so replacing them. My grandfather had allot of old rental properties that he learned me on plumbing, carpentry, roofing and electric. I also worked in between my junior and senior year that summer as the manager of a plumbing store. Jack of all trades, master of one!

I have found three of them with my detector this past year and a half.

Being that your 'ring' is 9kt, that tells me that it's likely European made, probably British.
I'm thinking it's from a Victorian ladies parasol or a gentlemans cane tip, it almost appears' too sharp' to be worn as a ring . :icon_scratch:

That was the sort of handle I thought about too. But, something about it makes me think it's a gas valve handle. There are marks on the sides like a tool was used to apply force. Probably why it broke. The marks are corroded the same as the rest. Unless they had a slow drip that somebody got mad at and tried to "shut it off!!" I'm thinking this needed a bit of force to turn. Like, a gas valve or some such. In any case, an old handle for sure.

Thanks!

Me? Master of all trades, jack of none. ;) LOL

I tend to agree with you, Dave. But, I thought about that sharpness too. It really appears to be a finished edge, rounded about as much as one good on something this thin walled. Really not sharp. A cane, parasol, dining decoration all makes sense. The jeweler said the fact that it wasn't marked probably indicated home made.

Neat piece in any case.

Thanks!
