When I first moved to Portland in 1980, I asked the Portland Parks Department about this. I was told the parking strip areas, while the adjacent homeowner has to maintain them, belongs to the City of Portland. It allows city employees to access water, gas, and some electrical meters for reading and billing purposes. I was told the city has no problem with detectorists looking in the parking strip areas. But I've also had some homeowners insist that I leave. If asked to, I leave.dbsmokey said:Does anybody know about metal detecting parking strips in Portland? I would like to hit some older neighborhoods, but don't want to break any ordinances. Thanks.
Keep in mind my information is now 30 years old, and may be out-of-date. But as far as I know it remains accurate.
