Reenactment is costly for Spotsy | The News Desk

The county collected a total of $125,331 in admission fees and merchandise sales—about $4,700 less than what it allocated for the event on May 3–5. Meanwhile, Spotsylvania had to tap into that revenue to cover $57,000 in cost overruns.

That revenue included:
$85,180 in registration fees for re-enactors, sutlers and vendors.

$34,335 in ticket sales.

$5,816 in merchandise sales. Merchandise can still be purchased at battleofchancellorsville.com.

Not included in the budget was $30,000 the county paid a contractor to design a website promoting the event. The county will use that website template for future events.

$30,000 for a website???????? Something smells FISHY!!!!!!!!

They didn't advertise very well. I didn't hear about it.

Gettysburg's 150th is right around the corner. They have reenactments for a week or more. There are two different groups of reenactors with each having around 10 thousand registered. They expect 80,000 spectators. Id love to see it, its only an hour away, but Im not interested in dealing with the crowd. Besides I already know who wins.

80,000? Whoa.. I heard more like 150,000.... I know a Civil War dealer going up to the Civil War show to setup tables. He said it is gonna be so jam pack that when it is like that, it is hard too sell in a crowded building.. Just alone people going to the reenactment, shows, etc it will be over 200,000 too maybe even 500,000 visitors.
