Pretty proud of this find considering I just started a few weeks ago. Is it as rare as it seems to be on-line? I can't find a lot of information on these and would appreciate any help I can get!

It's brass, rectangular, it's in pretty great shape, found on private family property that we've found quite a few CW items.

Thanks for looking!

I've been hunting the Richmond, Petersburg, and surrounding area for a long time now and I have never seen or heard of this plate. That is one of the most beautiful sites I have ever seen as far as Civil War relics go my friend. Being from Virginia and my family sending 38 members to the Confederate arms and losing my GGGG Grandfather for the cause, it would be hard for me to even think of selling that. It would be PRICELESS in my honest opinion! Banner find in my book! Thank you to HUTSITE DIGGER for the information on this once in a life time find. You started your relic hunting hobby out with a bang and on top of the highest mountain, enjoy it for a long time. HH and hello to a fellow Virginian!

Respects,

Wow! That is a fantastic find. I believe they are pretty tough to find with the soldered on hooks intact, but it looks to be in perfect dug condition otherwise. I would not do any further cleaning on that plate.

A dream find for any civil war relic hunter. Simply amazing my friend!

Wow, that's a truly great find. I hope you find much more on the property! Please keep us posted!

Quick piece of advice to the OP: I would not disclose the exact location of your property, unless you want to find trespassers on your land with metal detectors in the coming months. Post this kind of find on the internet, and you're asking for it. I guarantee there are already people trying to figure it out after reading this.

It's a shame but you're right. Thank you for the advice!

Awesome job!!! If I was you I'd keep it!! when would you ever have one again?

That thing is in unbelievable condition - super find!!

Nice plate. it's worth quite a lot. Don't let the dealers low ball the item. They are quite expensive. If you could, I'd keep it.

This is a amazing piece of Va history and a dream find of mine. This is much rarer than a sand cast CSA. Banner everyday.

if that doesn't get you hooked on detecting nothing will only thing is it will be hard to find something equally as good.congrats

Simply amazing find. You sure made it hard for yourself to top this. Congratulations! I would love to see a larger photo of it if you can post it. Like another poster suggested, be very quiet about who you are and where you live. You might even want to remove your location from your personal info. I bet you have a lot of people trying to be your metal detecting buddy after this find.

that is a humbling find. unreal. congratulations on digging up an incredible piece of history. you should be proud.

Wow that is awsome!!! congrats!!!

Congratulations on finding an incredible heirloom, a real dream find.

Great find! BANNER!

That's a beauty! Is it cast brass or stamped brass?
