ARA says they pay 98% and Ive sent gold to them 5 or 6 times and always get about 95%...Im very happy with that...the most I could get locally would be 85% and the last check I got from ARA was 1100 dollars. I would have lost 110 bucks selling locally...golds too hard to find for me to give up anything.

I'm going to get $ 3,000 in gold rings out of the safety deposit box and dump them soon.
With ARA do you send them Registered mail?
Insurance is probably a good penny and you have to worry that it gets to ARA.
Also, a check is a paper trail vs pawn at about 90% cash.
I also wonder if ARA test every piece since allot of my older rings have more gold in them than the stamp mark on them. Do they pay what the stamp mark is or test all pieces?
Reply's please.
TY

I've had three dealings with ARA and it was easy and pleasant each time. They dissolve the gold alloy in aqua regia acid and obtain the pure gold. You are paid on the actual gold weight the spot value on that day minus 2%. Diamonds can be returned or they will bid on them if you wish. Insurance from the post office is something like $10 per thousand. I've only sold under $2000 and never received a 1099 for tax purposes. I've heard that new customers need to provide a tax number but I'd call them and check. They are quick and responsive.

I highly recommend ARA- however I have never used Midwest and so can't speak for them.

If you decide to send your gold in to a refinery then ARA is the way to go...

Thanks guys. Nice to know that ARA seperates the gold and that is what you are paid on. ( as opposed to getting paid for the caret stamp on the item)
I would imagine that if a 14 K ring is stamped 14 K, then it has to have a minimum of 14 K worth of gold in it, but could be higher.
