its a lead pot to melt lead
 

I have never seen a lead pot that was enameled on the inside and no pour spout. Think it could be for something else but don't know what.
 

its awfully thick for its size, maybe something to do with heat?
 

Im thinking a grease pot for heating grease up to put on wagon wheels, used a brush to coat the parts....

Looks to me like it would fit into something because of the lip around the edge and the long handle. Maybe it would fit into one of the holes of an old kitchen stove, the ones where you take the cast iron lid off first. Nice conversation piece. Good luck. Hope you get a positive ID.
