I have not taken the time to post for a while, but I found good reason to do so this morning. I wish that my reason was a Mass Silver coin or some other exceptional find, but that might take a good long time to happen. Here’s a quick photo of some recent finds – eagle button, an apparent variant of a nipple button variant, a lightly engraved tombac, jaw harp, 1870 Indian Head (good date), etc. A trifid-spoon handle end follows in the next photo. I hope to someday post a complete trifid-style spoon or another Mass Silver coin, but that’s getting harder in light of what I encountered this morning while scouting for a cellar hole. PLEASE CHECK OUT THE LAST TWO PHOTOS.

I came upon a historical cemetery, and while checking the dates on the tombstones (WHERE PEOPLE ARE BURIED) – this is what I saw.

It seems that a lot more people are taking up detecting, which I believe is largely due to the all the reality TV treasure hunting shows that do a very poor job portraying the hobby - too much emphasis on the value of finds, lots of hype, and other nonsense. These so-called “reality” TV shows with corroded King George copper worth $$$ (completely unrealistic), poses serious problems for those trying to do things the right way. Such TV programs does not serve those hobbyist who are in it for the long haul. Too many people have taken up detecting for the wrong reasons, and now you get this – some inconsiderate jerk who digs a HOLE above a GRAVE, and if that wasn’t bad enough, he leaves the hole unfilled. I understand if the admin. moves this post elsewhere, but I believe we all need to be aware of this ongoing isse and start some dialogue and what to do! For all those new to detecting – don’t be digging in a cemetery, fill your holes, and get permission to be on private property. If you can’t do it right, go take up golf or bowling.

The way I see it is that if just one-single-driver runs a stop sign without stopping. Well, then, ALL DRIVING should be outlawed! NO MORE DRIVING!

Stupid? Well, yeah, obviously. But, that's the same mentality used when ONE idiot does it wrong! No more metal detecting! I've been saying it for a very long time!

Enjoy! While you still can! :(

I'm with you-that kind of nonsense cannot be tolerated.
On the positive side you have some very nice finds there-the jaw harp is cool, and the trifid spoon handle dates back to the 17th century.

Hi Silver Tree Chaser; I agree that if it were Rodents then it would be a lot easier to deal with but as you said there are signs of shovel marks on the roots etc.. To me that points to only one type of animal, the 2 legged Moronius.!!! Keep an eye on your local papers to see if anyone wrote any stories about those holes at the Cemetary. Then if the Article is negative which I think it would be, you would have the chance to respond to the Article via I guess Letters to the Editor. That way you could set the Records straight about what REAL TH'rs are really like and how We feel and operate about and in the Field ok. THAT would go a LOOOONNNNGGGG ways in making good PR for You & this hobby overall. Even the Police would take Notice of it and try to catch the suckers doing it. Let us know ok. Thanks guy. PEACE:RONB :icon_thumright:

Saw your post this morning & funny old thing I get my first Jaw Harp in ages!

Congratualtions on the nice finds! :occasion14:

Unfortunately, in my area many people are not filling their holes and are not asking permission to hunt some areas. :BangHead: We all pay the price for their selfish greed!
