Hmmm. Good idea in theory but I find that most people want to help with good ideas but not specifically tell you what they are selling. I'm in the latter category. I don't mind showing and sharing some of my more unique items because they don't come around often and there's not much competition anyway. It's the maintenance items I don't wish to divulge. Maintenance
Meaning the items I find very often and sell well and keep the money flowing on a regular basis. Good luck to you.

I understand that. I guess I assumed that we were probably spaced out enough not to step on each others toes to much. Thought it would help everyone. Sorry

Yea, ummmm...

Nice theory but if you want to learn about this stuff, all one has to do is simply read these forums.

I doubt anyone wants to share their own personal business model for the whole world to copy. Pass.

I bought a few things over $100 each, but nothing really rare or anything notable, just some pennies (numerous) to fill some gaps.

You are correct that we are spaces out enough geographically for the buying end of it but not the selling end. Most of us here sell on eBay and we don't want even one more person let alone many, directly competing with us. No offense at all to the OP. Research is key. Reading a lot on this forum is great. But I, as I'm sure others are also doing, spend countless hours on finished auctions on eBay. Here's the trick. You don't know what your looking for so just punch in some random or not so random key words. Check finished auctions and set it to only show you $50 and above items. Just an example price of course. I have found at least 40-50 items that I can generally walk into a second hand store and get 1 or 10 of this item. Not always but most times. I generally speak of items that I pay only 10% of the final value. These items are in the .50-$3.00 realm and mostly bring about $20-$50. This keeps the constant flow of cash between the bigger scores. Keep plugging away at it. And never stop learning. I've been at this since 1999 and I still use this method to find more.

Im new but thought this would be a good thread. If you have an auction that ends over a $100 post it. That way we can learn from you as you from us. Hope no one has a problem with this. I'll go first on an item that ended last night

Ralph Lauren Wool Indian Blanket Southwest Hand Knit Jacket Sweater Coat M | eBay

I bought at a thrift for 3 dollars.

First of all, awesome find! I love when that happens. I don't mind sharing as I try to only sell items that you don't find everyday. I share my money with Veterans Matter which helps house homeless vets so after that and eBay fees I don't see a huge profit usually but totally worth it in my opinion. Well, maybe not the eBay fees. :) If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

I don't want to get on the "beat up the new guy" bandwagon, but...

A few years ago, I logged on, and there was a new guy posting about his great finds from "the most awesome place ever"...which is MY #1 picking spot. The dude lives about 12 miles or less from me.

In the big scheme of things, I could probably post each and every find that I have, and it probably wouldn't cost me a dime, but then again, I don't want to be standing at my picking spot and have to pay $200 for a Packard carburetor that I could have bought for $2.

The competition is thick around here, and the last thing I need is more competition.

The competition in Jersey is so thick it is like swimming through pea soup.

The competition isn't only thick, but many of them are very smart and shrewd.

While I feel like I will always be learning in this business, back when I was cutting my teeth, so to speak, I spent a considerable amount of time studying what other resellers bought at auctions and estate sales.

I kept a notebook in my pocket, and would literally write down what they bought and the purchase price. When I got home, I looked the item up.

I still do this today. If someone buys something at an auction that I am curious about but know nothing about it, I'll often make a note of it, and look up "Heathkit radio".

Not a recent sale but my best ever as far as the most money for the least invested. Walking around a flea market with the wife and I spotted a vintage GI Joe complete with frog man suit, air tank, spear gun, rubber raft, etc. Paid 3 bucks. Funny looks from wife all the way home, a grown man buying dolls... Sold it the following week on Ebay for $185

Don't you love that? My favorite find was an old FAA pin from back before it was FAA. It took forever for me to find what it was. I bought it for 50 cents and sold it for 400.

I'll just say that the items i've sold recently for over $100 are not items you will find everyday and leave it at that. I will say I sold a Nativity set that ended up over $228. I started it with a .99 bid paid $5 for it about 3 years ago. If you read some of my recent gs finds threads you'll probably figure out some of the other items that have sold for more than $100.

No worries. I enjoy reading the forum and appreciate whatever you guys share. I have been doing it off and on for several years. I have found lots of pretty cool stuff lately. For those who share thank you. If not no worries at all. Just thought it was a neat idea. I'll share from time to time because I don't wanna be the guy who takes and doesn't give back. Thanks everyone for the responses

I bought a bike trainer at GW the other day for $75. Sold for $320. It sat at GW for weeks at 150. I bought a monster vw remote control car kit for $100. It will sell easily for $200. But, I just realized that parting it out will bring between $400-600. Love this game!!!

I think it's an interesting thread, just a personal choice how much everyone wants to say. My competition is already there and i know posting here would not really affect me in any way, but it's just not something I have ever done other than in general terms. As for the ending over $100 I've been on a bit of a roll and have had two recently over $1,000. One I had $20 into and sold for $1,400, and the other was in a group of items, and those items are worth more than my buying price, so essentially the good one mixed in was free and I sold it for just under $1,200. If I combine both, you could actually say I got both for free because the extras in the 2nd lot cover the buying price of the first one too! :) So around $2,600 minus the fees.... and if only if I could pull that off every month! The reality is I might get one of those a year, so to have two in a row is pretty cool. I have stepped things up lately, so given the extra volume hopefully it will happen more often. As for the $100 ones, I have many, but not so impressive because I had money into most and only made a small %... which is generally how it works for me.

Be on the lookout for anything made by the Johnson Oil Co... Very rare stuff... I went to an estate sale and found a small, household style oil can made by Johnson Oil. It wasn't even priced. It caught my eye because the logo looked kind of like the Harley logo. Then I found a cloth Johnson Oil Christmas sign. The top and bottom had been eaten by moths. It was priced at $3.00. I took them to the man and asked what he would take for the oil can. He examined it closely then said $3.00. I sold them on ebay... $240.00 for the can and $85 for the sign. Whenever I am watching American Pickers I am always looking for anything Johnson Oil related and have never seen anything. I think there is another Johnson Oil Co., don't get them confused. If you ever see the logo you will know.
