Purchased this yesterday at an antique store on North shore of PEI, It spoke to me... I payed 250$ that i dont even have.
I have already researched it a bit , but...
? Do Rebekahs have swords?
I think its very likely, from my research that in the 1860's they got all the same jewels and offices.
? What rank was this individual?

The name. M.C. Barbour.
George Hilton Barbour. A significant Pei individual 1874-1963
Who studied him self in Boston Mass. "For upgraded education".
Well his Mother Mary Eliza Currie;-maiden name..., Mary Currie Barbour, Married name. ,
M.C. Barbour.
She fits the time frame for IOOF Rebekahs at the start.

What does everybody think?
What can anyone tell me that i may have missed?
Thank you

Beautiful piece, looking forward to hear from other remembers about the find. :occasion14:

Independent Order of Odd Fellows. IOOF. A fraternal organization sword.

Oooo cool sword, I would hang that in my living room as a decoration but always with the idea it can be used as a defensive weapon against burglars in an emergency. Police report: Burglar found dead, impaled by antique sword, excentric homeowner claims self defense.

I know its a fraternal sword. But i think it was owned by a rebekah,, i am curious do all members get a sword? And is this like a grand master sword.

This is really cool and could be a part of PEI's history. You need to do some research with your local IOOF lodge. This site tells you how to approach that: https://odd-fellows.org/history/genealogy-research/. If it does belong to who you think it does, it could have a lot more value than the C$250 you paid for it.

living in NYC you might have to defend yourself sooner than later with the recent spike in crime rates, stay safe down there!

Thanks a whole bunch srcdco for the link. I was trying to find info about current IOOF on Pei. This is great.

It is true George Hilton Barbour has quite the significant history. I tried quite abit already to find out more info about his mother. She was Scottish and her husband Archibauld Barbour was Scottish, she married in 1874. What i realy want to know is the mothers history in womens groups and organizations on PEI and her role in early IOOF.

I think you overpaid a lot for it, here in the US fraternal swords do not bring much.

All about condition, age and rarity. Like everything else. This thing is like a beaitifully toned coin. And a one of a kind variety. I have yet to see a single sword just like mine with crossed crooks. Because its chicopee. And compared to others i date the sword 1860. And this coin is mint condition it was obviously important . and i beleive i already got some real history attached to it. I emailed the IOOF already for more.

The patina alone is worth the 250$.

To you maybe, but not the open market. 99% of all fraternal swords are in "mint" condition, they were never used as weapons, and only outdoors for a parade once in a while, mostly just worn at meetings and social functions of the fraternal organization and left in closets. None of them are rare to find in mint condition, most aren't rare at all. Desireablility makes value, not rarity, age or condition. Just not much of a collector market for fraternal swords. You didn't believe the goblet you bought wasn't a rare relic either. I am sure it is worth $250 to you since that is what you paid, but don't be disappointed should you try to sell it and don't get any offers near your price. Enjoy your fraternal sword!

I may have a reputation as a bit of a dream crusher, but darn it, i think you top me. You not only stuck the sword in, you sat there and looked into his eyes while twisting it.

Nice piece of kit and i wouldn't feel bad having paid 250.00 for it. I just paid 350.00 for a plane propeller for my man cave and it isn't no where near as cool as that!

Plenty of fraternal swords in antique stores and flea markets, usually under $75, especially at the fleas. Just not a big collector following for them. I have bought and sold bayonets, swords, and knives for over fifty years, do know a little about the market. Just did a quick ebay search under "soldd listings" many sold for under a hundred bucks, some higher. Here''s a link to an IOOF one.

This sword is a cut above the rest.
This sword makes the collection.
There are always the comons. And post 1905 swords... Then there is swords made by ames circa 1860. Swords with gold plate. Swords with the extra insignias worth. 700-1200. This words from another sword collectors website... Any sorry. But 99% of swords i see fraternal are rusty. I dont get why your concerned with the value of my sword. Im not selling it to you. Not for 1000$. Can barely buy a couple video games for 250..., i figure. Its worth atleast its original cost in 1860 adjusted for inflation. With i hope tremendous historical value.

I challenge you to find me something comparable please on the market. Or in a collection.
It would be beneficial. And i mean something From IOOF. The most respectable fraternal orginazation in my opinion.
Not something with a knights head or a eagle. And something by ames chicopee.

If there are cheap quality swords out there. Id buy them. This is one undervalued antique category in my opinion with a whole lot going for it !!- because it is so obscure there are rare swords among all your comon 20c swords. Sorry if you like to see cheap prices in your market.

Encampment to the Royal Arch and is supposedly much less common than similar swords which have a symbol of the sword crossed with the crook. I'm sure those more familiar with these fraternal swords will know more. All I can say it it seems to be in excellent condition with a nicely engraved metal scabbard. Any info would be helpful. Feel free to e-mail any questions, but my knowledge is minimal. Just received an e-mail from a fellow ebayer who said it's a knights templar sword and not that rare. I thought it needed a cross to be knights templar but that's just my assumption. Thought I'd add this info for what it's worth.

The above is quoted from worth point.

See how the guy was hussled and some1 tried to tell him it was a comon nights templar. He already new it was a rarer issue..

My sword is more unique-2 crossed crooks
My sword is better condition.
I would be very happy if you could tell me the sale price of the pictured sword on worthpoint. Or similar
