I gained access to some property near Dos Cabezas here in Arizona... An old little historic town with extensive mining history... I believe I was detecting near one of the old mining housing complexes for the miners.... I found this token which looks like its imprinted on some sort of American coin dated 1880...

You can make out a womens face!.... On the token is says "Wise Bowie" "A.T" "1 "Cigar"....The area at the time was known also as Bowie close to the historic fort Bowie... Not sure where the word Wise comes into play and the A.T....

That is a very cool Token.
or counter stamped coin.
which ever you like to call it.
The A.T. might stand for Arizona Territory

Wonder if it has anything to do with Ft. Bowie, A.T. ?
Don......

Sooo this is very interesting indeed... Doz Cabezas is down the road 20 miles or so from Fort Bowie.... The area back then was referred to as Bowie... This has the area history written all over it... There still more I would like to find out about this token... Like was Wise the name of the mine..or maybe its not a mining company token but a military token... I don't know...

Looks too big for a farthing based on your zinc cent. More likely a 1/2 penny. I agree that A.T. would probably stand for Arizona Territory. Cool piece! :icon_thumright:

Maybe one of the Bowie family and someone named Wise open up a store? :dontknow:

Neat find!

There was a Sam Wise who had a few saloons in that area -- I've seen references to him being in Tombstone, Benson & here is an article about Fairbank. I think it is reasonable that he could have also had something in Bowie but I haven't found anything to confirm.

That token is fantastic! I cannot wait to see if a final conclusion is figured out with it.
